A Peacock Tale (2004)
So far only two other people have commented on "A Peacock Tale" and both of them have given it fairly negative/indifferent reviews. So I would like to offer a differing opinion - I thought it excellent and it was one of my favourite films in the recent "Homegrown Hollywood" series on BBC2.
The film has a 1920s feel due to its being shot in black and white and its use of captions rather than dialogue. It is relatively simple in terms of plot - it tells the story of Fabia, a flapper who at night is kept awake by the sound of a peacock outside her window. Fabia must get some sleep so that she can go to the Easter Ball - she also needs a hat for the ball. So, she hatches a plan that enables her to kill two birds with one stone, so to speak.
Although the premise is simple, what makes it so entertaining is its style of execution. The combination of 1920s style, slightly sinister animation and quirky sound effects is inspired, and Carrie Kitt is thoroughly entertaining as Fabia. All in all, I thought "A Peacock Tale" a wonderfully surreal, dark and entertaining short and I very much enjoyed it. If you have a taste for the surreal then I would certainly recommend it.
