Suspenseful plane ride fueled by Foster's great performance
Flightplan is an "edge of your seat" thriller beautifully made with a strong performance by Jodie Foster. Sean Bean is also excellent as the airline captain who has a heard time believing her.
Of course, there are always plot holes in these kinds of pictures or scenes that just aren't plausible, but Flightplan isn't "Million Dollar Baby", it's an action/thriller believable enough to take you into the mind of an emotional mother who stops at nothing to find her missing six year old child.
Director, Robert Schwentke and cinematographer Florian Ballhaus do a terrific job at creating suspense and making you think reasons could be anything from political terrorism, to the supernatural, to a grieving mother's paranoid, emotional state. Production design, editing, sound and music are all well beyond what's expected for this genre.
Flightplan is an exciting roller-coaster of a movie, fueled by one of Foster's best performances in years, and should not be missed.
Six Feet Under (2001)
TV doesn't get any better than this
Just had to give a few personal thoughts on this amazing show as it's winding down.
When I saw my first "Six Feet Under" years ago, I was struck by how real the characters, the dialog and the world the series portrayed was. However for me, what really made the show brilliant, was the fusion of this brutally honest portrayal with the absurd fantasy elements focusing on death and the meaning of one's life.
What a trip it's been. The show where David is taken for a joyride by a crack head, crazy enough to almost kill him at the end -- was riveting and real. Scenes between Brenda and her mother were always a joy, so wonderfully damaging to both, yet so funny. The show where Nate was jealous over one of Brenda's old flames and went on a drug binge with the camera following him around the apartment Darren Aronofsky style, was the funniest single scene in a dramatic TV series that I have ever seen. I can go on and on.
The writing, direction, cinematography, editing and acting in "Six Feet Under" are of the highest order. This is simply the most ambitious, complex, intelligent, thought provoking, humane, brilliant television show ever produced. Congratulations to all involved, TV doesn't get any better than this!!!
