The Happening (2008)
$60 million budget, $55 million too much
The movie seems to have limited computer-generated effects. This could definitely have been a good low budget Roger Corman-type movie back in the day: lots of outdoor location shooting with natural light and a couple of industrial fans to blow the trees around;) Nowadays such a movie demands a relatively huge budget. One scene taking place in a tiger cage is pretty good. The film has a mild environmental message that is about as tame as the one found in "The Simpsons Movie." "The Day After Tomorrow" it is not. There is a generic romance. There is a creepy Tim Robbinsesque character ripped-off from "War of the Worlds." The movie is just not well written. Three stars for Mark Wahlberg's body, though.
