Batman Begins (2005)
One of the best movies of all time
To begin, what a fantastic movie. It surpassed all my expectations, even though the trailers were a slight giveaway to the standard of movie.
I grew up as a child enchanted by the cartoon series, followed by an excellent debut Warner Brothers movie by Tim Burton. The sequel although not as good kept me entertained to the end, but the sequels that followed quenched my love for Batman from the mid-nineties on.
Christopher Nolans "Batman begins" embodies everything that the comics and the cartoon series achieved. The storyline was flawless, interweaving fictional themes and modern day society. The high profile cast succeeded in embracing each character to the highest degree with the exception of Kelly Holmes with whom i found unconvincing in the role as the criminal lawyer and Bruce Wayne'childhood sweetheart.
What else.. the screenplay was dark and reflective of Gotham city life as we know it, the stealth techniques were highly original compared to previous Batman movies. Even Michael Caine' performance was stunning as he is usually quite a one-dimensional actor ( although he should have grown a mustache to be over-critical). Overall a must see and a definite 18/20.
Blown Away (1994)
If i had the option to give this 0/10, i would have.
I found it completely stereotypical and insulting to the Irish race in relation to most of Tommy Lee Jones pathetic acting in the "movie". However in support to him the script didn't give him much inspiration to act in his usual convincing manner. One example which which clarifies this is midway through the film as he sings along to a U2 song while gleefully manufacturing home explosives. Is this supposed to give the scene a realistic edge or force the majority of viewers to fire a basket of eggs at their television screens. I think the latter! Don't bother wasting two hours by viewing this crap
