The Da Vinci Code (2006)
Even more disengaging than the book
Hanks is wasted, Howard seems to fall asleep for the 2nd half, and the plot is even more comedic and low brow on film than it is in print.
I had no trouble accepting the various performances on film as the book had virtually no characterisation at all, but Hanks seems to remain a blank slate throughout the movie, reduced to a mere talking almanac for Tatou's 'please explain it to me again for the simple people in the audience' plot device.
I was totally unmoved by the book, and curiously the movie is even worse. It will be a money maker, but critically it's an absolute yawn-a-thon.
What was the line that made me laugh out loud again?
