The Blacklist: Konets (2021)
A 10 just for giving us hope for season 9...
...and putting us out of Boone's misery. A plus for leaving Reddington's identity a mystery and not going down the path they were hinting at. I'll continue to assume Liz's life flashes involving her mother were merely reflections of how deeply she cared for Reddington that they overlapped as her brain shut down.
Touching moment but doesn't make up for 7-plus seasons of her horrid acting.
The Blacklist: Nachalo (2021)
Is He or Isn't She
If true, it's both a slap in the face to the trans world and makes the whole show unwatchable from the very beginning. To go through each episode and picture Raymond as a post-op spygirl? Pass. The message also comes down to sex reassignment surgery is merely a choice of convenience.
Lethal Weapon (2016)
Found a reason to give it another try - S3 much better
I just couldn't buy into the show when it first started and occasionally DVR'd it to see if it got better, but Crawford was never Riggs. Just couldn't buy it. Wayans was a servicable Murtaugh but we couldn't get past the miscasting of Riggs. I was unsure what the removal of Crawford was going to do for the series, but the addition of SWS made me anxious to check it out again.
Wow. I was thrilled with his performance and happy to see he hasn't lost the wise-cracking touch that's made him popular. I think what's made him an improvement to the show is that they aren't trying to make a TV version of Riggs (like with Crawford, which turned us off) but a totally different character, which I can accept as he isn't trying to be someone we already knew.
Anyways, while the show is some light buddy cop fare, keep Scott and quality guest stars like Nick Searcy and our family will be tuning in each week.
Hunter Killer (2018)
Why the R Rating?
After looking at various clips and trailers, I assumed maybe it was going to be cussing that caused the R rating, but after watching it, that can't possibly be it. Wasn't sex. Wasn't gore. Can't even be violence. I've seen more PG-13 movies that made me regret taking the 10-12 year olds that were more inappropriate.
As for the movie, everyone in our group really enjoyed it. (ranging from 58, 30, 17 and 11) Fun Gerard Butler movie - I was worried it'd be pushing an agenda, but if it was, it went over my head. (I know, there's always some kind of agenda (or message) but nothing that pulled me out from the movie)
Was exactly what I expected from the few trailers - a fun popcorn flick that I didn't regret paying for to see in the theater.
I don't know how it'll do in the box-office this weekend since the ads and previews were scanty and the R-rating surely kept more families from seeing it, which is a shame. Thumbs-up from this viewer.
