Lists by gbacquet
The main criteria I used is simple: "Do I consistently like the work they do?". If the answer is yes, then their name is on the list. This is why Fellini is not here (I've only really liked 2 of his movies). There are some other famous and accomplished directors whose work I haven't seen enough of, so I couldn't put their names in here. I've also consider a body of work that in my opinion is of consistent high quality, not just ONE movie. The list is no particular order, although the first three are my all-time favorites.
As I always say, this list is in no specific order of favoritism. It does include my 100 favorite living actors and actresses (although some have been long retired).
In no particular order, just movies I love watching over and over again, and which are all part of my own "Top 250 list".
These are the actors whose body of work I truly admire and whose movies, I think, have endured or will endure for people to admire. I've also considered logevity and what I consider consistent high-quality work (I've chosen De Niro because of his large body of work through the 70s and early 80s, but I do think his latest movie choices have not measured up to his acting talent). And I have to say that I didn't consistenly liked Sir Lawrence Olivier in movies, so he's not on here.
These are my all-time favorite actresses. Some of them are perhaps too young be included in an "all-time" list, but their sheer talent has made me choose them despite their smaller body of work.
This list is in no particular order, just my favorites this year (although "The King's Speech" is my absolute number one).
Ridley Scott has always been a very interesting director for me to watch. His visual style is amazing and he also tells interesting stories. His ample body of work is very diverse, never sticking to one genre in particular, so there's lot to choose from. ("The Duellist" is omitted from this list because I haven't seen it)
Tony Scott is not one of my all-time favorite directors, like Hitchcock, but he directs crackerjack action films and the aesthetics value of his movies is always very high; his movies are more thought-provoking than he leads to believe and while looking over the list of films he's made, I realized how much I've enjoyed them. These are my 10 favorite films of his.
I know this list will seem controversial for some, having left some memorable performances out, but I have to say that I've chosen the roles I think really showed what a truly great actor he was, and not how good-looking he was. I honestly think that really happened later in his career, though you might argue that Hud or The Hustler also showed he was a terrific actor. Nevertheless, these are my choices.
I have not included Inception; although I dothink the movie is brilliant, Joseph's role didn't allow him to shine as much.
This was the hardest list for me to compile, I think. Some performances were hard to leave out, but in the end these were my choices.
In my opinion, she's one hell of an underrated actress and seems to appear in very underrated movies, in underrated roles. Her talent is nonetheless beyond question.
I've not included any TV roles (ie, Angels in America, You don't know Jack), only feature films (and I've never seen Scarecrow). Also, my choices have been influenced by how much I liked the performances themselves, not necessarily the movies.
