Animal Factory (2000)
Entertaining but there's always "a but"
After seeing this flick I can say it didn't really trigger any deep emotions in me. Furlong's performance was, as I felt it, rather superficial. He could have done much better if he had only expressed some more involvement into the action. In 'American History X' his acting was truly second to none, however in "The Animal Factory" he is like frozen, I mean his facial expressions, still the same grimace...he just seems to be bored with the things going on.
What's more,I'd like to praise Dafoe's brilliant acting...wow man, the moment he's soiled with food, eating "shit" from the shitter, and stained with his blood...that was really remarkable. Talking of cast, I realized that Danny Trejo is an actor who's just irreplaceable in prison-movies. He makes the best convict I have ever seen when putting together all his petty and bigger roles. No doubt about it.
The plot and the way it's driven through the whole movie is acceptable however the ending is disappointing. I doesn't feel right that Copen failed so easily in escaping from the prison. It was to simple for me.
In sum, if you want to see a movie with more than good actors and get some insight to always watchable prison environment, go and get it. 6 outta 10.
