It's Gorgeous and Well-Paced!
Even after Robert Graysmith's painstaking Zodiac books came out, who would have guessed he and his obsession with the murders would be the focus of a major motion picture! And face it, obsession is the main story here.
It says a lot about Fincher's power as a filmmaker that such a satisfying "thriller" was made from un unsolved case. The period aspects of the picture were done with such a true and light touch.
Just to boast: Bob Vaughn basement scene seemed a bit out of place. I actually had a few opportunities to hear Bob Vaughn play accompaniment for some Buster Keaton films at the Castro, he was not creepy enough in real life and I loved that he was in the film, but it seemed to get into more familiar thriller-world there.
