Ridley drops the ball
This movie only gets a 3 from me for most of the special effects but in all honesty, Ridley Scott dropped the ball on this movie. For being the father of the Alien franchise, he should have known better than this. I know this movie is supposed to be independent of the Alien franchise yet was suppose to tie in with it towards the end... it didn't.
Charlize Theron's boring, cold boss just didn't make any sense when she and the David character got confrontational with each other.
Speaking of David, his motivation throughout the movie was unclear. Everything he did only left more questions for me than answers. Like how the heck did he know what the goo would do to the Holloway character? And what exactly was happening to him?
What happened to the eggs that were seen in the original Alien movie? How'd they become these canisters of genetic goo that create these white snake things with acid blood and replaceable heads?
The "pilot" was dead in the driver's seat of the ship in the opening of Alien but at the end of this, he dies at the rescue ship of the humans. And the xeno that popped out at the end?? WTF??!!
There were SOOOO many other characters that you couldn't get a feel for them? What their personalities are like, what their backgrounds are. How could you feel anything about their deaths when you have no connection to them?
Of all the comments I've seen so far, not one person has mentioned the availability of this movie! Has it been released to DVD or is the production company holding it ransom. I'm a big fan of JAWS and thought the design and creation of the "creature" itself was outstanding. Human casts aside, that shark did it's job. Now years later, no one can find it on DVD. IF it is out there, could someone e-mail me (firstname.lastname@example.org) and let me know!? I am seriously interested in watching this movie again but have no way of finding it. So, please, if anyone knows anything about it being on DVD, please let me know. Thank you.
The Amityville Horror (2005)
Original still best!
I went and saw this movie! Lordy was it a mess! The actors, producers, and director all said they were going off the book but did they ever BOTCH the movie. IF anyone ever really read the book, they'd refuse to see such a movie. I had my hopes up that they'd do a good job. Scary, yes. True, NOT. Hollywood really went far fetch with this movie. I won't even purchase it when it comes to video. I think if they'd gone the route they did with James Brolin and Margot Kidder, the movie would've been a lot better. Only thing lacking from original was the ghosts that weren't seen. Sorry to had to sit through it all. Jodie was NOT a DeFoe member but a pig spirit that the Lutz daughter saw. Ketchum was never tied with the Indian background, in fact he was supposedly a witch, not a reverend. As for the Lutz dog, Harry, he never was butchered the way the movie portrayed. In fact, he was never butchered at all. SAD, SAD MOVIE!!!!
The Ring Two (2005)
Bad Critic Reviews are RIGHT!!
I went and saw this movie and my lord was it just SO boring! The movie spent so much time focused on Aidin and Rachel that there wasn't any room left to talk about why everyone was so afraid of Samara or why the girl has such powers as to use videos to return to the world of the living. Even the possession of Aidin by Samara was a little on the dull side. IF anyone had seen the first film will want to walk out. There was nothing to be startled by. I actually felt sorry for Sissy Spacek. She's done way better movies. Naomi Watts was way better in the first movie or even in Mulholland Drive. Predictable in most ways than it should be. Simon Baker was a little on the dull side. WAIT FOR VIDEO!!!
