Get the Gringo (2012)
Poor remake of Payback but worth seeing once
A poor remake of Payback set in Mexico, which is refreshing and interesting for its prison location and unorthodox gritty dark side, but as it progresses it increasingly rejoins the usual dumbed down predictable popcorn movie formula it shuns earlier, and sadly repeats too many obvious moves and plot qualities from Payback.
Although the film seems to sway between trying to show how real it is and the absurd (white guy walking around a lawless open Mexican prison never draws attention even when he flashes cash constantly etc). The John-Woo type shootout did not fit in. Payback was a masterpiece and if you enjoyed it come to this with lower expectations and it will provide entertainment, but not a keeper.
War of the Worlds (2005)
Very Disappointing and ANNOYING!
I disliked this film so much it compelled me to come and vote and write about it, which I do not often do.
1. Why do people have to remake films - AND they choose classic films to remake, it's an insult to the original.
2. Firstly the end was very very poor, like a quick-fix rushed ending, executed with no respect for the intelligence or emotions of the viewer who had been unlucky enough to have invested a while sat watching the film. I'm not complaining at the story, but at the way it was presented to the viwer by the director. Rubbish, I left the cinema feeling robbed of my ticket fee.
3. Isn't this film more of TV standard, it just seemed to me it was a little tale, and would be better on the little screen at 1am.
