Over the Hedge (2006)
Family fun size movie
Family fun size movie. I found it somewhat of a short movie with a rushed ending. Could've been a little longer with a more developed conclusion.
A quality animation movie with a five star beginning - something you'll be dying to see over and over. R J, the badger voiced by Bruce Willis has made my list of favorite animated characters funny and cute. Nick Nolte, voicing a big bad bear with a big bad attitude fits like a glove. Overall a good casting, funny moments, some suspense, some scenes definitely blinking the eye to other movies. Excellent characters, with distinct traces of personality and voices that fit each animal in the story perfectly, not to mention the human characters as well.
With a cleverly crafted social and ecological message, it's the perfect summer hit for young and old alike.
7 out of 10 , for the above mentioned reasons.
Son of the Mask (2005)
Just for the sake of...
CURIOSITY.Yes, the main reason why most people watch these movies.AND, of course, for the expectations left by it's predecessors. In this case, THE MASK, starring Jim carrey. Although his characters can sometimes be excessive and theatrical, carrey gives us a much better performance in his movie than Jamie kennedy.Kennedy takes some time to warm up to his character, never staying far from a mild/average acting skill, thus, never really making a connection with the audience.
Now, Bob Hoskins steals the show, as far as i'm concerned. Quite good as ODIN, father of the gods.
Surprisingly, from my point of view, what could be the highlight of the show, the FX/digitally animated scenes/action between the dog and the baby that gives the name to the movie - the son of the mask - and all the other digital animations in the movie, are what actually spoils it. Some parts are all too excessive and boring , showing some abuse in the use of CGI effects. Or the lack of imagination and plagiarism ( as when the dog, that looks rather like ipkiss's dog, puts on and changes into the mask, like in the previous movie).
Alan Cumming is pleasant , sometimes a bit annoying in his matrix stile wearing.
All in all, if i were to choose, i would go for a whole digitally animated movie like the breakthrough one's these days, and far better. That would certainly be a better choice, probably a winning one. This is not the case though, a mild movie dangerously in the border of average and bad, but still, manages not to fall down completely. 5 out 10
