Chasing Liberty (2004)
a very good movie...
This movie is great! I know what everyone will be saying: Mandy Moore??? pffff... You're wrong, she's great!! she's a very good actress, and especially in this one: she's natural, irradiating with innocence... The story here is nice, even if it sounds classical sometimes, it's funny and entertaining... but most of all, the love part is totally amazing... and sometimes breath taking, I must say... Matthew Goode is totally and absolutely gorgeous (I looove the way he speaks!), and I must say, it makes one more point to this movie (cut me some slack, I'm just a girl... lol!) Mark Harmon is really funny as the prez, and Jeremy Piven is perfect as always! If you want to spend a really nice moment, this movie's for you... It maybe isn't the movie of the year, but it's a great romance...
How to Deal (2003)
no chemistry here
I really like Mandy Moore, I think she's a good actress and under-rated, maybe cause she's a pop singer too, I guess... I've seen many movies with her in it, and loved most of them... but I didn't get this one... She's great in it, as always! The story of her character, living her adolescence facing her parent's divorce is classic but interesting and very well acted, especially Alison Janey... and the music is great too! The "side" story of her best friend is also amazing! But the fact is, even if it's not the most important thing in this movie, I didn't get the love part... there is no chemistry here, between her character, and her boyfriend. Even if he's kinda cute, he looks too young for the part, and is not really convincing to me... my point is it doesn't work! I know it's only my opinion! So, if you like Mandy Moore, you'll like this movie! but love it? I don't know! Watch it, and make your own opinion!!
Nanny McPhee (2005)
A very nice, entertaining movie...
Emma Thompson is the best... ever!!! I thought it would be cheesy, or silly when I watched the trailer... but I was surprised, in a very very good way! It was funny, and beautiful, and we laughed like the children around us... Emma Thompson is amazing, and so is Colin Firth, perfect, as always... The children are great, with a special mention to Thomas Sangster, who is sensitive, and will become a great actor! Kelly McDonald is very pretty and acts with a lot of reserve, it's sad we don't see her that much! The Aunt, played by Angela Lansbury is scary for good, and it was nice to see her again! The story, even if it's classical, is a cute fairy tale, like those I used to read when I was younger, with the lovely happy ending... If you want to feel happy, it's a movie for you!
Pride & Prejudice (2005)
A total disaster, not just the miscast, but everything...
Pride and prejudice is my favorite book ever, I read it twice a year, and it always thrill me... Maybe I expected too much be I was very disappointed... Keira Knightley is quite OK, but she always keep the same expression on her face during the whole movie (pouting most of the time!), and she plays a very arrogant Lizzy. Matthew Mc Faydyen is OK too, cute and charming, but he looks like he's going to cry every second of the movie! The other characters are dumb (like Mr Bingley!) or vulgar (like Miss Bingley), or for most of them, transparent... you don't care about them... But the thing that really ruined the movie was the disrespect of the proprieties... They mattered so much to the society in this time, and are very important in the book... that's the basement of P&P... and here, they meet at night when they are in their nightdress, Bingley come into the room where Jane is lying ill, and start to talk to her... amazing to think it's in 1795 in the aristocracy...
To finish, the director tried to mix Jane Austen with the Brontë Sisters, which hated Jane's writings, by the way... and it's unbelievable to see Mr Darcy and Lizzy together under the rain, he, telling I love you... Where is Heathcliff? screaming and hitting tree trunks with his head?
Cant' believe that with a wonderful story, and so much money, they ruined the movie... I understand that if you didn't read the book, you can like this movie, but if you did read it, you can't like it!
