Jack & Jill (1998)
Boring low budget soap opera better left on the bottom shelf collecting dust
Brutal stereotypical soap opera with a low budget and totally uninteresting characters set in bleary U.S. wanna be Toronto. One wonders where they even got the low budget to even make this dreck, I would sooner have another root canal done and watch CNN at the dental surgeon then to sit through this tepid boring story. Save your money and time and take a pass on this one to save your mind from the tedious dialog. Canada is much more capable of making movies than this dustbin favourite. I happened to watch on cable and thank god for my laptop to distract me or I would have turned it off ten minutes into it. There are much better way to spend your time 2 out of 10 stars
Well done movie about survival from adultery and the elements
I think Robert Ryan is one of the greatest actors of his time and its a shame that he seems to be forgotten in todays movie society, This is am excellent example of Ryans acting prowess and shows how the will to live is so strong despite being betrayed and abandoned in a place with out hope. I would say this is a must see for people interested in Robert Ryans acting and his excellent ability to make it all seem so real. I like the fact that he never gives up despite all the odds thrown against him when adultery alone makes most people lose the will to carry on. I have seen this movie twice now and have been riveted to the TV both times. Years ago having seen Robert Ryan in a few movies I thought he was OK but this movie proves he was much more than that and I look forward to discovering him in his other movies I have yet to see.
Three Godfathers (1936)
Well done western that doesn't show its age
I stumbled across this movie in the wee hours of the morning and was riveted by the story and acting. Chester Morris whom I had never heard of was excellent as the cold blooded gunman and of course Walter Brennan put in his usual excellent work. I had a hard time believing it was made in 1936 it has aged well in comparison to most westerns made before the fifties. All three main characters were excellent and the story moved at a good pace with a good twist at the end. I would recommend this movie to any fan of westerns and hope to catch it again so I can tape it................9 out of 10. I hope I can find this on a decent DVD print as it would be a most welcome addition to any western fans collection.
Rio Conchos (1964)
Excellent forgotten Western
If you are fan of great westerns and acting you must see this movie. I have not missed many westerns, but up until today I have never had a chance to see this, I knew about it thanks to IMDb and I am a huge fan of Richard Boone whom I consider on of the best Wesern Stars ever, right up there with John Wayne,Clint Eastwood Henry Fonda etc. Others have given the story line better than I could. But Boones performance is a must see, he totally dominates the film is as usual so incredibly believable, probably because in real like he was one tough S.O.B. It is great to see him in the beginning a burnt out shell of an ex confederate officer who's family was butchered by the Apaches and as the story races forward he slowly changes into an honourable man at the end. Some great scenes include the shoot out with the Apaches at the burned out farmhouse and Boones performance in the flea ridden bar was a also a great scene. Boone was so convincing as a tough guy, someone you wouldn;t want to go against. Great cinematography and soundtrack acompany this film which moves along at a fast rate and contains a few well placed plot turns. Highly recommended to any western fan and I hope to find it on DVD
Cry Blood, Apache (1970)
Just plain bad
Jody McRae is not even a splinter off his dads back. Jody is not leading man material and this flick proves that for all to see. Bad acting, poor soundtrack and weak story adds up to me like some sort of "practice" film that should have been left in the camera. Robert Tessier is OK as "Two card" but the best part of the whole film is the beginning where Joel McRae takes the reigns. when son Jody shows up it all goes downhill. There isn't enough character development to draw anyones attention and Jodys lead isn't even remotely interesting. Unless you are a niche collector this flick should be avoided even if it was like the two bucks Canadian I paid.
