The Rite (2011)
It is not what it seems and what seems
It is difficult to classify a film as The Rite. First, in principle, is a serious approach to the subject of exorcism which has so often been treated in American movies.
During most of the footage, the film struggles, like its main character (Colin O'Donohue, not Anthony Hopkins, who does not appear until the first 30 minutes), for one thing, it seems another and ends up being the same as seemed that it was not.
If it looks like a mess but it's not. Trying to fight to be a horror film (more like a drama tinged thriller) and it ends as it is not intended. And whilst justified, is not credible. In fact, for many moments scratches the fine line between the risk of ridicule, falling into the latter in its final sequences, with Hopkins unleashed, which does not help much on CGI.
It's a shame, because they have tried to be "different", but the reality is that, like the Devil would not only have to "trick" the viewer masking a film that itself is what seems to be and not what the creators believe it.
El tío Itsban (2010)
Curious horror short film narrated in 3 minutes.
The grace of short films shot for "Notodofilmfest" is the difficulty of having to do a specific duration and compulsory 3 minutes (also 30 seconds), and this is the greatest merit of "Uncle Itsban. Not original, but neither sought. And if it gets its purpose: to tell a story in 3 minutes "typical" rural horror purest American style. Has a "joke" final, who after all is what gives it meaning, although it was not necessary either. The cast is correct. Nothing to say. And the staging has some interesting things. The characters are more or less as expected although a couple of things happen that do not quite make sense (the subject of the bride to be with the "other" to buy smoke (???). The rest, curious.
Dream Memories (2007)
Really short experimental. History is not the most important thing in this case, but everything else is very well-honed as music, editing and sound. It is also a skill that no dialogues, as they could spoil everything. The image is fine but can be a problem for the hearing if he is on the big screen because the image format (Cinemascope) may cause some dizziness or epilepsy. Even its creator and director, Sergio Munoz, is better than expected, as he really is not actor.Ana Cambero brings sensuality and don't really rotoscoped animation works well, although note that it is a little "trap". A strange proposal, not without mistakes, but curiously, the end of the day.
