Youth can bless or curse old age
I realized that this film doesn't need to be nitpicked or "profoundly" understood. The thing is this: it gave me a glimpse at what old age is. I felt old, for real. When everything you've ever done seems to be so far away, when it's meaningless you're left with so little. But of you've played out the little things through your life in the right way, they are significant and don't cause you to die with regret about what you've missed. And those little things, although the biggest in life but look little in comparison to the stupid goals we set upon ourselves, are our relationships. Value people, be true, love them and be what you have to be which is often different from what you want to be. But set in the right order "have to" and "want to" don't contradict themselves.
And you run and you run, but the film get's you in the end
Feel, touch, smell, see, live... all these are possible while watching this film. Simply pt - this is brilliant. The pace, the long shots, the character the camera plays, dialogs, colors, locations - there is not a single weak link in this film. I can't even think of something more to say. Put it this way: You've put on a bulletproof vest and gone out to fight this film. You are well prepared. It starts of with sticks and stones. Not much harm, but you can see the threat. But the film won't let you go with so easy. It jumps ahead and takes out a 9mm pistol. Still, what can it do. Shooting at you and you are proud of the bulletproof vest. You keep on going, the film calms down. And then out of nowhere it jumps in front of you and takes you out with an RPG. You lay for a while, murdered. Then some sense comes back to your head and you press the quick reload button. Here you are walking, regenerating and you've learned something - the skill to avoid an RPG + your vest is back to 100%. Proud again, feeling invulnerable... BAM!!! The film drops a nuke on you. Wasted you are with no way back. And it has the nerve to laugh by showing you the credits.
Exit Through the Gift Shop (2010)
A film that will always win over the viewer
This is one of those films that wins over the viewer no matter if you've understood it or not. The depth of the story, the details, the action and development are phenomenal. At the end you are sitting in your chair and taking in a big breath of air telling your self - wow, this is huge. You've sat down for an hour and a half and lived somewhere else for that time. Even as I wrote the previous sentence i thought the film was at least two hours long - then i checked and it turned out to be 87min. This is how good it is. It's as if you are playing an intense video game, you are in a different time frame, different reality till you see the credits. So, you are there looking at the names go by the screen, taking a big gasp for air, extremely proud of what you saw. You are thinking of all the details. Suddenly i decide to look up the main character just out of curiosity of how he is able to pay for the things he did in the film... and then: Nuclear blast... Heat wave... Cosmic collision... - this film turns out to be a mockumentary. Brilliant! Amazing! In the moment that you are telling your self how much you've loved this and you are wondering - could it have been any better - it becomes bigger than you could have even thought.
Antichrist - washing dirty hands with soap of truth
As I sat to watch "Antichrist" I had already been told things like - this film is disgusting; this film should not have been made; useless and evil film, you just feel something evil from the screen... So i decided to get on with it and have my own opinion. Right from the start this movie gets you going. It has great cinematography and precise editing with a very good tempo to it. Sadly, just a few minutes in to the film comes the first spoiler for me. Yes, some things can be shown on film, but there is always a way to direct the film in a way to make the audience feel and understand. Sex is a big discussion around the world and how much should it be shown, but this goes over the top. Bang! From the start you see a detailed shot of penetration. This puts it down for me. But still I've started the film then I should finish it. Till the final quarter the film constantly grows in pressure. It directly works on your psyche. With clever cinematography and well calculated time and space, small things like shivering grass and trees make you feel awkward, they grow on your nerves and emotions. The film grows in symbolism, mixing animals, constellations, creating its own meaning for nature and men. This is where i say that i agree with the word that i got from this movie. I agree that people in their own thoughts and needs, in their own world of understanding are surrounded by death and are heading for the grave. Grief, pain and despair are what people tend to find in life. A life filled with objects that are here today and gone tomorrow. This is where you start using the title as part of the movie. A person in his natural state, being a consumer, egoist, egocentric, is an Antichrist. Without God in a day to day life there is no source of purity, no source of love, joy, importance, meaning, life, no path that doesn't lead to death. Saving is what we all need and that is what we have to find. This is a good overview of what life is like and what it can be. But the graphical content is inadmissible. The easiest thing to accept is a drill bit going through a mans calf. This is surpassed by graphic sexual penetration, masturbation, bloody male ejaculation and a woman cutting her clitoris off with scissors. If I could I would send Lars von Trier to jail for making this film the way it is. Maybe not just him but every one that helped make it.
