Band Camp (2005)
Not bad at all.
I haven't seen the original AP flicks, so I didn't go into this with any expectations. (Which also means I probably missed quite a few references, aside from the ones already out there in mainstream pop culture (the pie, flute, etc.)) In fact, I kinda figured it'd wind up being the stereotypical direct-to-video cash in.
However, I was pleasantly surprised. There's a certain charm to the movie that most in this genre lack. I'll admit, at first, I got a bit tired of the over-the-top facial expressions and behavior of the main character, but as the story progresses it makes a bit more sense and turns out to be somewhat important.
The story wasn't exactly deep, but it had it's moments. The cast really elevated this one beyond the ordinary. A genuinely likable cast all around. :)
The ending surprised me, and that's what I think I liked about this one the most. It didn't end with the 'good guys winning the day against all odds thanks to the ultimately charming rebel' . At least not in the way one would usually expect from a "kids at camp" comedy.
Glad I got to see it. :D
