Panic Room (2002)
Great movie - a response to the message board filling up with stupid comments.
Honestly, I watched this movie from start to finish without any storyline discrepancies. I'm amazed at some of the things people have come up with to complain about. The intruders could not simply leave the house even for a short time because that leaves Meg (Jodie Foster) and daughter Sarah free to wander the house. One could remain in the panic room, eyes on the criminals now outside (thanks to the outside cameras) while another gets a mobile phone, shout across to neighbours, hell even make an escape by taking as long as is needed to undo the barricades previously set so long as there is ample warning time if the criminals decide to come back in, which the person in the panic room could provide. The situation goes in favor of our heroes once the criminals take the defensive any lengthy amount of time can be used to their advantage to do whatever they want in the house, including calling the cops, which would defuse the entire situation. The criminals therefore must stay on the offensive; thinking of ways to get them out or lingering nearby the panic room entrance. The also could NOT have waited for them to 'starve to death', which would take weeks given the food supply (they did not know about Sarah's condition), as somebody somewhere would have noticed.
As you mention there are cameras in most places but not everywhere. I can guarantee there would be cameras at each entrance/exit, so the "we escaped (but are actually hiding)" trick would have no effect.
Even more ridiculous is the user review on this movie that states the robbers could leave he premises and return when they Meg goes "to work". That would be a great idea, because there would be ample time to call the entire state police department the guard the area. Sigh. Think before you write stupid things. The single mother and daughter were able to afford it, as touched on, hmm . many times during the film, the husband was rich and, as stated in the first five minutes of this film, "He could afford it". The SWAT team arrived as a result of gunshots and general loud noises. They had been called before that morning so a second call from multiple people (probably different ones too) would have a greater effect.
Anyway, enough bashing people's stupid ideas. I thought it was an ace movie and just how a panic room should be portrayed. A safe as can be humanly created, but once the slightest thing goes wrong in the most intense situation, you can kiss your panic room mentality goodbye. From start to end I enjoyed this flick.
