I gave it a 3 due to the music and the incredible voices.
Honestly, it doesn't even deserve that. I understand that it's supposed to take place in the late 1800's, but this is horrid. Even at the time the movie came out women's lib had already begun and I can't believe that any woman would have had the insane mindset of "If he hits you, it means he loves you" as a norm. It wasn't true even then.
Considering that this is Rogers and Hammerstein, I can't believe how bad it really is.
I love musicals, and the old musicals tended to be rather sexist but this took it to a new level.
I don't think the creators ever saw From Dusk Till Dawn
It is nothing at all like the movies. And I do mean nothing. There are no similarities. It is much more like Supernatural than From Desk Till Dawn. But even then, there are limits because the actors aren't nearly as charming, attractive and magnetic as Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles. The stories aren't nearly as interesting.
Basically... it's something to watch. Take up your time.
I'm at a complete loss as to how in the world this show has such high ratings.
It's as simple, and as sad, as that.
Next time, the creators might like to think up a new name.
The Shannara Chronicles (2016)
How far Hollywood has fallen
I loved this book series when I was a kid. When I heard that it was becoming a TV show, I got very excited. How wonderful to finally see one of my favorite childhood novel series coming to life.
Then I watched the show.
Does anyone remember the live action Dungeons and Dragons movie from years ago? That's EXACTLY how this feels.
Basically, MTV cheesed out. It feels amateurish at best, and severely disappointing at worst. I gave it a five because it's the Chronicles of Shannara. The show itself does not deserve a five. At best, it deserves a three. They are trying, I give them that. But this is a fan fic at best. They could have turned this into one heck of a great show but they didn't.
The fact that it's averaging 8.2 at the moment on this site only goes to show how little people have begun to expect from Hollywood and their intense lack of taste and talent.
I really don't think I will be watching another episode. Pity MTV didn't treat this with the respect it deserves.
Z for Zachariah (2015)
OK, best I can say is... huh?
It's like the movie cut out half way through it. It makes no sense. You never find out what happened to Caleb, and there's no exposition on anything. Where are the rest of the humans? Why was the valley spared? Why end it with the girl playing the organ and no explanation of anything? Why end it on a totally hopeless note? They act like they are the only people left on the planet but even in the event of a nuclear war, that's not going to happen in a year. Even the book actually had an ending. This one just cut off half way through the story.
This movie made no sense.
I want the last two hours back.
Only Lovers Left Alive (2013)
That was fascinating
We are rather fans of the unusual and this movie is it. Fascinating take on the modern vampire with centuries behind them. It really makes me wonder where the other vampires are though. In this movie, they don't seem to have a society to speak of and are so few in number that they barely know how to find each other.
I really have to say, Tom Hiddleston did a rather fantastic job of being Jim Morrison, and incredibly sexy in this movie. He does tend to do bad guys very well.
Tilda Swinton was interesting. I've never been a big fan of her, and she feels out of place in this movie but does a good enough job.
Wouldn't mind seeing it again. Pity we started watching a little late.
The Falling (2014)
OK, so it's boring
Maisie Williams is a good actress but the film is slow moving and almost nothing really happens other than closed minded people not wanting to talk about the realities of life.
That being said, there is an actually problem and it's not with the film itself but rather with those that have watched it and how clueless the conclusions seem to be.
1. The reason Lydia is acting the way she is is obvious. Because her semi lesbian relationship was in the process of disintegration when the other girl died after cheating on her. She doesn't know how to deal with it so she begins acting out. She is, after all, only a child.
2. The fainting spells are also rather obvious. They are real for some of the girls and not for others. They have been picking at the wall in one of the rooms. Obviously there must be mold or something in the crack. It could also be lead poisoning given the time period. And then they are sticking their fingers into each others mouths or their own. It's quite obvious that some of them have ingested something that will harm them.
3. Not all of them die, so there is another issue. Abigail was pregnant. There is a blood toxicity that can happen while pregnant. When I was little my best friends mum was confined to bed for months while she was pregnant because this almost killed her. She ended up in the hospital for almost a month. This, combined with what might be in that wall, is likely the cause of Abigails death. Given that technology wasn't nearly as sophisticated at the time this movie takes place, they may not have known what caused it.
The movie may be boring but thinking through the answers shouldn't be so difficult.
The Age of Adaline (2015)
Insanely incredibly boring
I gave it a two because the sets and costumes were good but this movie put me to sleep.
Was it the writing?
Was it the acting?
I'm at a loss. Blake lively had no personality. And there was no connection between the two main actors. No spark.
Boring as Benjamin Button.
It was so boring I pulled out my nook to play a game. If it wasn't for watching this with the in-laws, I would have turned it off.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy romantic movies as much as the next person. I get that they were trying to create romantic but sad. But this... If it wasn't boring it would be depressing.
More and more, Hollywood is seriously losing its touch.
Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)
Why is the rating for this movie so high? It's honestly complete garbage. Mostly cool fx (though some really obviously badly edited) and that's it. This movie wasn't even about Mad Max even if the name was used. It was Charlize Theron (Furious? Seriously? Watching The Chronicals of Riddick were we?) and oh Mad Max makes an appearance too. I want the last two and some hours back. I'd have been better off watching paint dry.
What a waste of my time.
Bad acting, bad effects, bad story.
An actress like Charlize Theron deserves better than this.
The 100 (2014)
I really wasn't expecting what I found when I watched this show. I was expecting just another teen drama.
The truth is that it is very good, and it is not just another teen drama. This show about the survival of humanity after a devastating event that nearly destroyed us.
The acting is good, the sets are fantastic.
The only thing I wish is that there was less mud and grime all over everyone all the time. I'd like to see some kind of hope for these poor people to move on from this.
It's been quite a fascinating journey seeing the suggested changes to the planet. These changes are within the realm of probability.
I have to say that I can't wait until the next show. It's been years since I could say that about a television show.
Great potential... missed
I just love musicals, unfortunately there is yet to be a good melody through the show that you will remember after the show is over.
As for the story, it has great potential with a good cast. But they don't fulfill it. They don't use this excellent cast to its full potential. They are desperately trying to turn it into a comedy but it's not funny.
I really think the problem is the writing. It just isn't as good as this concept requires.
There have been far too many attempts at "modernizing" shows that should be period pieces recently. They aren't being treated with respect, and its showing in the way they are written. You can still have strong characters without turning them into badly written jokes.
Wish I knew what happened to Hollywood that they are missing the mark so widely in recent years. Hits are hard to come by.
