How to Stuff a Wild Bikini (1965)
The first time I saw this I was very sad. Musical style numbers Yuck
I was very sad because after seeing the ending of Beach Blanket Bingo for so many years where it lists this film as an upcoming sequel I had High hopes for it! It started sucking right when John Ashley starting singing "Healthy Girl". What the hell John Ashley is not supposed to be singing!!. (Healthy Girl is actually one of the better cast songs in this film.) This film stopped sucking for 3 minutes while The Kingsmen sang "Give Her Loving" and then afterwards pretty much started sucking right up again. What ever gave the people who made this film the idea that Harvey Lembeck and Micky Rooney should sing a bunch of tunes? God Awful! I do like Dwane Hickman but I think he did a much better and funnier performance in Ski Party. I'd like to know who came up with the idea (and why) to add musical style numbers. Awful, awful, awful! Annette really stinks in this movie and she really aged quick from Beach Party (where she was super sexy, innocent, young, and hot!) to this movie where she looks like a mother of a 5 year old who bakes cookies and shops at Kmart.
OK so that's the bad now I'd like to talk about the good. The good Erik Von Zipper when he's not singing. The very hot Casandra, who needs Annette when you have Casandra! The Beach girls singing "How About me" because they are so yummy looking. The kingsmen of course is always good. And maybe The race at the end because it's goofy.
Over the years I have how ever grown to somewhat like this movie and I'll watch I'll sit through it now and then. I mean it's the worst AIP beach party movie but it still beats watching Murder She Wrote, plus Casandra is Hot. Maybe if Bone Head would of had more parts in this film it would of been better.
Beach Ball (1965)
More than you'd ever want to know about this film
This movie follows a kooky college drop out surf band named "the Wigglers" (corniest/funniest made up movie band name ever!) as they party and watusi it up non-stop! They need some bread man, cause this old grump from the music store named Mr. Wolf wants his instruments back! So Edd Kooky Burnns and his Wigglers try to con these nurdy college chicks out of some bread! The square chicks get hip to their plan and since they're such nurds try to devise a plan to get these college drop outs to return to school. DRAGSVILLE!! I seriously love every corn ball thing about this film! My favorite performances are by Mr. Wolf. It's a real hoot when Mr. Wolf gets eyes for the swingin' bikini bunnies that like to go-go it up at the Wigglers pad and forgets all about getting his musical instruments back. Mr. Wolf always ends up waking up the next morning in his pajamas out on the street where the fuzz bust him for indecent exposure. Har har! Watch out for my hero Dick Miller who makes an appearance as a cop! Another funny thing in this movie is all of the Wigglers music! It's like somebody wrote all of their surfin' songs in 5 minutes! My favorite is "We Got Money"!! I find myself singing this tune sometimes just to annoy other people who've seen this film. Another thing I really like about this film is the Hot Rod show with all the boss custom rods. Look for some of Ed Roths wheels in the background. There is also a character based on Ed "Big Daddy" Roth in this film who goes by the name "Little Daddy" which is kind of interesting. This movie also features Aron Kincaid who also is a semi AIP beach party regular so this picture kind of has that AIP feel to it. Oh yeah and this goofy looking guy who was in Gidget Goes to Hawaii was also in this film playing wiggler/Ski diver. Lets see what else do I want to say about this film.. The suprems singing a song called Surfer Boy is kind of funny, and or just plain weird.. The Walker Bros don't really do anything but bore me in this film, I'd much rather hear another goofy song by The Wigglers. The Hondells also make an appearance lip synching to "Buddy Seat" which is cool and kind of funny because a couple of the band members are playing instruments that are not even used in the song. You can really tell that the film makers just slapped this movie together fast (Ed Wood Style) and didn't really care about making the Lip Synched musical performances look believable, unlike in the American International Beach Party Films. If you really want to see the great Hondells in action watch Beach Blanket Bingo or the end of Ski Party.
Cat Murkil and the Silks (1976)
Slow Down Baby, Baby Baby Slow down
This is a really fun 70's street gang film! I'm sure it's not good as far as editing goes (like that other reviewer said), but who pays attention to that(?); only nurd film majors! It's a violent gang b movie and it'll make you laugh out loud at it's cheesiness. Plus they cruise around in a cherry 57 buick! So watch it, it's a goodie! that's if you can find this rare gem at a old video store. Seriously this film made me laugh, especially when they let that kid who looked like he was 10 in the gang. Plus the music is pretty funny, with a cheesy garagey theme song "Slow Down Baby". My favorite line from the film is happens after this rival black pimp gang hassle with the all white silks about a drug deal gone bad they say "lets get out of here I feel like I'm in Disneyland".
Napoleon Dynamite (2004)
My favorite movie of the year
you either GET IT or you don't folks . I give it 10 out of 10. Thumbs up and all that slop. If you don't get it, it's OK, the movie just wasn't made for you. It's a indie film it wasn't made to make the lowest common denominator happy. My grandma however enjoyed this film and she's 80 plus years old. There's no sex, no over abundance of naughty swear words it's the perfect film for grandma! it's also the perfect film for you as long as you're not A square. I think it's pretty funny and cool that a lot of people just don't get this film. I was turned off at first when I saw the MTV logo before the film. But I found out that MTV had nothing to do with the making of the film they just distributed it.
