Crop And Save
This movie was pretty bad. I usually trust IMDb users, but i guess i should have learned my lesson after transformers got good ratings. This movie has all the makings of crap. B list cookie cutter actors that probably came in to audition and were chosen cause of their looks and ability to hold a sentence together. Also the camera at no point looked like a hand held camcorder or had any of the qualities it might have. The battery would never last that long especially after using the light so much. It would have probably broken in one of the many scenes where it fell at least 6 feet to the ground. Also i understand taking it, but when you drop it and run back for it numerous times, then you deserve to die. The quasi love story was pathetic, the idea that after on of the friends dies that they would still all be on board to save this one girl is ridiculous. And now for the part i almost walked out on. When they are with the military and he is pleading with them to help them like they don't have a million other things to do is ridiculous. Then one of the generals give him some advice and basically helps him to save his girlfriend, that he only spent one day with after having intercourse. All in all nothing was explained well and it was cheesy and ridiculous, but it had some cool moments, but other than that sucked.
Higher Learning (1995)
This movie is extremely cartoonish and perpetuates stereotypes to try and break them down, unfortunately it does not. It starts by portraying the rich OC white girls as stuck up and only wanting to get drunk and hang out with stereotypical date raping frat boys. First I am in a fraternity and we are a bunch of guys like anyone one else, we are as much capable of rape or not raping someone as anyone else. Then there's the black guys who of course have the utmost respect for the black beautiful woman and could never be as piggish as white frat boys. The black group has its idealogical leader who instead of leaving the system he fights against stays in it for 6 years. You have the preachy teacher who is like some kind of God leading the people of college through their roough times. Not once have i met a professor like this, filled with so many ideas that it would make your head spin. Then there is the loner white guy who actually has chances to hang out, people are nice to him, the frat guys accept him, his roommates except him, no one is mean to him throughout the entire film and then one weirdo asks him to be a neo nazi and he is in. He quickly shaves his head, starts carrying a gun, pulls the gun on a black man, then has the balls to show up on campus the next day. And the black women are a force too, one doesn't even know where Orange County is so she says is that near Compton, like that is the only city in CA that she knows of... And the feminist of course. Starts as a confused freshman with money problems, which don't add a thing, she talks about her dad being laid off and told she has to get a job, but she never resolves those money problems or gets a job. Eventually she gets raped and getting hammered and going home with a frat boy. It was a weird rape in the sense that she wants to have sex but just wants him to wear a condom and when he doesn't she leaves and calls it a rape. I agree its rape, but its a little harder to sympothize with. Eventually there are some culminating points, a fight between skin heads and blacks which looks like a WWE match in slow motion. And eventually a school shooting by a skin head, even though they could have made the movie interesting by having one of the black students do it, but that wouldn't make any sense now, black people don't commit school shootings, not psychotic enough. Eventually we learn that black and white can coexist, but we did not learn why, it took a school shooting for people to realize that racism is wrong...? Makes no sense and the slogan "unlearn" at the end in front of the American flag is even worse. To top this movie off they don't reveal ice cubes face for a while like its a big deal he stars in the movie. And Busta Rhymes adds some annoyance as well. All in all its good cause its just entertaining to watch a bunch of stereotypes run around and hate life.
The Untouchables (1987)
well i went into this movie thinking it would be a good cop/crime movie maybe like "heat", but boy was i wrong. My first clue should have been Kevin Costner and Sean Connery. The plot is just corny to begin with...you got the up and coming cop (classic cliché), the old under recognized cop (been done) and the rookie and the nerdy cop who comes in handy very rarely. Then you got the creepy evil gangster and the big time mob boss. All this is just so reminiscent of every other cop/criminal movie that wasn't that good. So you take these cliché characters and you put them in a less than exciting story. Prohibition, has there ever been a law less respected. Costner's character doesn't even have passion for the law, he states he just wants to uphold it, so why fight so hard to uphold a law you really don't have strong feelings for is beyond me. Anyway a bunch of over dramatic events pan out with semi gruesome murders to add to the film trying to establish its rugged credibility. All the while we have to listen to one of the worst scores in movie history. I mean the music is bad, when someone is sad the music is so over the top sad music it is ridiculous. And when something exciting is happening the music is so in your face it is annoying. The movie should have also concentrated on Capone and his cold bloodiness more...instead he is rarely in the movie and really serves no purpose. This movie did have some OK points but for the most part there are plenty more movies you could watch to get what this movie was going for. 2 worst things 1. score 2. actor choice
2 best things 1.De Niro 2. gruesome murders
Not Another Teen Movie (2001)
Not Another Bad Spoof Movie
NATM came after the success of the Scary Movie franchise and was the beginning of a bunch of bad rip offs of scary movie like Date Movie and Epic Movie. Now I admit I liked the first Scary Movie as it was nice to see a good spoof movie since the last one I saw was Mafia back in the 90s. The problem with this movie is that it explains their jokes like we the viewer are not smart enough to understand the spoof. The worst is when the Jennifer Love Hewitt/can't hardly wait character walks in and some teen boys explain how everyone has to stop and stare and wait for her to start moving again. seriously I got it, but it wasn't any funnier when you explained it. Another part that got my goat was the lame Molly Ringwald cameo. It starts with a fast zoom in of her face so we MUST know who it is. OK like I can't recognize a flaming red head form every teen movie in the 80s when i see one. THen she proceeds to preach like she is the GOD of all teen movies ever and tells the characters what to do in the airport. NOT FUNNY NOT COOL AND NOT NOSTALGIC. The rest of the movie is filled with some alright gross out and stupid humor but no funny spoofing which should be the whole point of the movie.
