The Room (2003)
Only tolerable when completely "wasted"
I'm one of those people who normally agrees with the "its so bad, it's good" line (being an avid fan of B-class movies and Rocky Horror). I attended this movie laughing off all the comments that it was the "worst movie in the world" as screenings sold out virtually every month. It wasn't until I was there, fatefully making the mistake to attend sober, that I realized the only way you could sit through more than 5 minutes was to be drunk/stoned/both. I can see how, viewed in a theater at midnight after a few drinks, this might conjure up its own hilariously demented cult following complete will call back lines and spoons but for anyone expecting a movie worth crowds this size, don't go. The writer/producer/director/leading man Tommy Wiseau lacks talent in both his character acting (if you could even call it that) and writing skills. The self-financed "The Room"s shortcomings go way beyond the standard array of glaring continuity errors, dodgy sets and stagnant editing...it's hard to describe how bad the acting in the film actually is. I left the cinema not only wanting my money back but wondering why 15 minutes of the movie was spent throwing a football around on a badly constructed rooftop.
