The Flash (2014)
Super Great, and Super Kid friendly
This show does what others do not. It remains lighthearted enough that not only is it fun to watch, but kids can enjoy it as well. Adults, remember back when you were a kid, and there was one truth: Superhero shows and movies brought out the wonder and imagination that made anything possible. They were kid friendly so our parents didn't have to worry about what the can watch. That is not true in today's society. There are great superhero media out today, on TV and in the movies, but they are often so far from being kid friendly that only teens and adults should be watching them. Daredevil and Jessica Jones pushes that into only adult territory. SHIELD is overly complicated and drawn out that only a mature mind can remain interested. Even this show's predecessor Arrow, is too violent, too complicated, and to adult. This show narrows the gap. It is mature, but light, fun and still interesting. It is a show that my child has no problem getting interested in, and doesn't get bored quickly from over-complicated story lines. Barry is just a very good guy, trying to help the public from the bad guys. Simple, straight forward, no muss no fuss. The stories are engaging. The childish glee of Barry and his friend Cisco are contagious. Even when things get serious, they don't throw frenetic temper tantrums at life in general. One of the best, if not THE best, superhero shows on today. Bring the kids, bring the popcorn and sit down for some family time, something that seems lacking in today's society.
Once Upon a Time (2011)
I Hope it Never Ends
This show may not be edge of your seat every second like GoT or TWD, but it is exactly as the premise states, a fairy tale. It's mild enough for older kids and complex enough for adults. Through the seasons it has explored an endless facet of characters from beloved fairy tales to legends and myth. It makes them smarter. One thing I have always hated about Disney princesses, their oh poor me someone save me personality, is totally turned on edge. Snow White is the peoples champion, and a good archer to boot. Sleeping Beauty isn't afraid to fight. Evil can be redeemed, sometimes. There is so much depth to the storytelling, even for a fairly simple, in today's terms, show. In a TV world rampant in detective tales, blood, and zombies, this is a lighthearted though thoroughly engaging tale.
Lost Girl (2010)
One of the best shows on cable
OK, first off, it is a fun show. If your looking for another deeply philosophical show with a high body count, you should be watching Walking Dead or GOT.If you just want to sit down and thoroughly enjoy an hour of television without the messy morning after discussions, you have found your show! Not every episode is great, and some relationships just p!$$ you off. And they should, it is called being invested in a character. I don't know whether to credit the writers, or the Amazing actress who plays Kenzi for making the show less serious and so much fun. The Fae have always had deep roots in mythology, so the possible situations are endless. The characters kick serious behind, and the show does a good job of showing that light Fae and dark Fae does not equal good and bad, but bad and badder. Furthermore, Bo is great and does her best to be truly good. Her human sidekick Kenzi is the real scene stealer, I so "lurv" her. Dyson does a great job being the tortured not-so-bad guy. With a great supporting cast there is nowhere to go but up.
let it steep, like good tea
After being a devoted Smallville fan, I was anxious for the Cw to have a new super hero show. After Smallville, however, it was hard for me to see anyone else as the Arrow after the lovable Justin Hartley did such a good job. I know season 2 is already playing, but this one gathered dust in my dvr. While I like the grittier edge, the beginning of the first season was really hard to get involved with. I just didn't care about the storyline, or the characters, and almost wrote it off like BatB, the CWs other new hit show that season. But, and here is the important part, I GAVE it a SECOND chance. I am so happy I did. While most people are already well into s2, I am almost finished with s1 and I'm really starting to love it. So, in conclusion, if you gave up on it like I almost did, give it a second chance. You may be grateful you did.
Best Game Ever
After this non-gamer fell in love with the first game, thanks to my daughter, I HAD to get the sequel. I didn't care that this was a very expensive game for an out of date console. I ordered it from a game shop that specializes in old games. It took me approx. a week of anxious waiting after discovering the first game, and I had to drive about 40 miles to get it, but oh so worth it.
The game continues immediately after the first game. Each of the 5 avatars have different skills and deficiencies. I found myself deciding I don't trust certain characters... I have to see yet if I'm right. There are many more quests, along with side quests for each individual avatar.
Another new and helpful addition is being able to create your own magical weapons and armor, using gemstones. Very useful, but expensive. The world has been expanded to a wonderful length. I am still looking to finish it.
All in all, though I miss the nods to other media that the first game had, this is a far superior and filling game than the first. Both the first and second dark alliance games are worth every penny and hour you send on them.
First Game to EVER pull me in COMPLETELY!!
My daughter discovered this game among old ps2 games I had in a case. I have never been much of a gamer, other than music based and mainly for the music. As is typical, she got stuck and asked for help. Annoyed I put my book down and took over.... and kept going. I could not put the controller down. It is the best of fantasy and gives nods to tons of great books, movies and TV. The heroes remind you of LOTR, a human (Aragorn), a dwarf, (Gimli), and an elf, (Legolas), and the actor who plays Gimli on LotR even voices a side character. There is a nod to Princess Bride, Inigo Montoya's line, "prepare to die". I have to say the full line when I play. The female elf looks like Xena when dressed in leather armor, and even says "kill em all". I constantly find more nods to the fantasy greats, which enhances the fun. Yes its true the game is not extremely hard, but its not super simple either. The best feature is it makes me smile, and laugh, which I find very difficult to do most days. Now I am enjoying watching my little girl find the joy in this game that I was privileged to discover.
