The Phantom of the Opera (2004)
Loved the phantom of the opera
I loved this film. I have seen The Phantom of The Opera on stage a few years ago but never felt for the characters like I did when I saw this film.
This movie moved me to tears, I loved the performances by Gerard Butler - The Phantom, Emmy Rossum - Christine and Patrick Wilson - Raoul. I really felt for the phantom and could feel his pain and loneliness. The music is very moving and greatly adds to the emotions and sentiments of the movie. Minnie Driver plays the Diva La Carlotta - and is great playing the Diva Opera star. I also liked Miranda Richardson playing Madame Giry and Jennifer Ellison who plays her daughter and Christine's friend.
North & South (2004)
I had never read this book, but enjoy watching period dramas. I'm going to read the book now. I got into this in the first episode and I was gripped all the way through. I was rooting for Margaret and John to get together as it just had got to happen. Great portrayals by Sinead Cusack as John Thornton's mother and Jo Joyner as sister Fanny, she was funny. Brendan Coyle was great as Nicholas Higgins, showing us the worker's side of the story and what the unions were trying to do. Very believable acting from Richard Armitage as John Thornton and Daniela Denby-Ashe was lovely as Margaret. Thornton reminds me of similar sort of characters - Mr Rochester, Darcy. We need men like that.
ITV have never shown all the episodes!
They have scheduled it twice and promptly taken it off. I got so fed up with waiting for it to come back on so I bought the book by Marian Keyes to see what happens. ITV said something, at the time, like they hadn't found the right time to schedule it. It's really annoying to viewers when they do this. Once they've scheduled it and aired it please keep the story going. Still it would be interesting to see what ITV did to the rest of the story and if their ending was the same as the book. One of the actors in it plays the Phantom in the The Phantom of The Opera film out soon. Maybe one day - who knows. Why spend the money making it if they aren't going to show it - doesn't make sense.
