The KoAloha Ukulele Story (2008)
A little film that brings hope to the world
The Koaloha story is a short animation based on the rise of the Koaloha Ukulele manufacturing company. The animation fits with the subject at hand, and how it's shown in black and white just makes its niche appeal even more likable.
The short animation piece is about Alvin Okami and his real-life struggle to become financially stable with his company. Throughout the film, the bits and pieces of the puzzle come together, as if by fate or a higher being. His narration, along with the artwork, pulls you into a different world and convinces you that there is hope in the darkness.
The entire piece, although it drags at some points, has a very strong inspiring resonating message. I've never cared much for ukuleles when I started, but I have gained a new-found respect for it. Even though its subject is about ukuleles, the idea and focus is more about not not giving up and just follow your passion. It's a amazing story that anybody can relate to.
