Tommy Cooper lives.
As someone who was born after Tommy Cooper passed away I never had the opportunity to appreciate him while he was alive. I have always heard my parents and others rave about how funny he was so I thought this was definitely worth a watch.
I was not disappointed. David Threlfalls portrayal of Tommy Cooper is absolutely amazing. Due to the effort the production crew put in to making him actually look like Tommy Cooper and plus the fact that Threlfall is an outstanding actor I didn't even realize it was him playing the part, in fact I even had to IMDb it part way through to realize it was him. He genuinely brought the part to life.
I loved all the one liners throughout this film and immediately got to appreciate Tommy Cooper as a comedian and as a man. One criticism I've heard is how Tommy Cooper comes across as a chain smoking drunk. At the end of the day yes he may have had a drink problem but these things often come with the entertainment industry, but its not like he was ever violent to anybody and at the end of the day Tommy Cooper was a human with faults just like everybody else.
Overall I believe this film educated people like me and the next generation just who Tommy Cooper was and through this film and an amazing performance from David Threlfall, Tommy Cooper can live on and continue to be apriciated.
The Last of McGuinness (2013)
Brilliant Documentary, I Totally recommend
This documentary is documenting the last tour of a wrestler named Nigel McGuiness who is about to retire from the world of pro-wrestling. Around 2009 Nigel McGuiness who was performing as Desmond Wolfe in TNA vanished without reason, the internet was buzzing with rumours of hepatitis, HIV, severe concussion and more but the wrestling world had no idea just what was truth and what was just rumours, this documentary is also Nigel's platform for him to get the truth out.
As a fan of Nigel I couldn't wait to see this. Nigel discusses growing up and being a young boy with a dream and how in his 20's he saved the money to travel to America to train. Nigel wrestled everywhere for very little money all while trying to pay his dues in the world of wrestling in hopes to reach a top wrestling promotion such as WWE. Nigel talks about the dark side of his journey, the friends he's lost, the injuries he's acquired and the stress of life on the road.
What I love about this documentary is Nigel does a fantastic job of discussing what wrestling really is and how he interprets it as an art form which is something I wish people would understand more.
Sadly for Nigel his dream of reaching WWE was not meant to be due to reasons I don't want to say as its a spoiler and when he did reach at top promotion (TNA)he was his by what can only be described as bad luck. Nigel McGuiness is now trying to come to terms with the fact that his dream of Wrestling stardom just isn't meant to be.
It is a great documentary and a must watch, very sad at times but in my opinion its a travesty that WWE didn't sign this man when he can work better than 99% of their roster. I would also say he's one of the top 5 British wrestlers to ever break America. I will always remember his amazing matches with Bryan Danielson (Daniel Bryan) Tyler Black and Doug Williams. Thank you Nigel.
Definitely recommend this documentary
Never forget your inner child
Back in 1994 when I was 10 this was a favourite of mine, I even had all the action figures. As I got older I never really thought much of it until the other day when I decided to watch it just for the hell of it. Now as an older person with more understanding all I can say is that this is one of the most amazing films ever. There were points in the film where I even started weeping and getting emotional.
Hook tells a great story about A grumpy lawyer named Peter Banning who takes life too serious who has forgotten about his childhood as Peter Pan. Captain Hook kidnaps his children and takes them to Neverland to lure him in for one last battle, the only chance he has of saving them is to remember his forgotten past as Peter Pan and do battle with Captain Hook. The film is a huge reminder that I should always keep in touch with my inner child and never let go.
Acting wise Robin Williams brings his A game as does Dustin Hoffman, Bob Hoskins and the rest, Julia Roberts is in it too but she's nothing to write home about.
If you've never seen it then you should watch it, whether your a child or adult it doesn't matter, the film is one of the best adventure tales ever. If you've not seen it for a long time then re-watch it because like me it is a great reminder of how I was back when I was 10 and even helped me find my less cynical side.
Good, but could have been better.
I was always a fan of the Highlander films with Christopher Lambert and knew from the start I would feel the same about the series. I really liked how they expanded on the imortals and brought in the watchers, and different villains like the rogue watchers who saw imortals as an abomination to humanity and wanted to kill them.
What annoyed me about the series is every episode seems the same, Mac reminisces about his past, meets an immortal from his past, they do battle, Mac wins and has learned a valuable lesson in life and has closure from an event in his past.
Every episode seems to be about an Immortal which annoys me because if Imortals exist then surely this should open it up for all kinds of possibilities. I think the writers could have really expanded on the Highlander franchise if we saw other kinds of things in it, such as maybe Warlocks, witches and other kinds of supernatural elements.
That been said I did like the Highlander series, Adrian Paul was great as Duncan MacLeod. There were some fantastic sword fighting scenes and some great stories based around past historical events. I like how we got some new characters too such as Amanda, Methos, Richie, and Joe A great series that would have been better if the writers were able to think outside the box.
Superman III (1983)
Okay film, worth watching if your a Superman fan
This film takes more flack than what it deserves. The problem with this film is there's too many pointless characters, such as Gus Gorman don't get me wrong I absolutely love Richard Pryor but the character just served no purpose in the film whatsoever. Secondly there's Russ Webster, who in the absence of Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor basically just played the same kind of character, although I think Russ Webster is what Luthor should have been but less goofy, and then there's his sister who randomly gets turned into a cyborg robot thingy.
Aside from all that there's some good things about the film, we see Clark Kent return to his roots in Smallville and reignite an old flame with Lana Lang. The best part of this film is Superman getting exposed to a type of Kryptonite that creates a dark Superman which leads to a classic showdown of Clark Kent vs Dark Superman.
As a kid I used to love this film but now when I watch it it just appears to have no development or direction to it. One for a Superman fan no where near as good as Superman I&II. Definitely lots better than Superman IV though.
Toy Story 3 (2010)
Most emotional animation film ever made, Thank you PIxar!!
I've never written a review on IMDb before so this is a first, I am writing a review because I simply need to let people know just how awesome this film is and if you've not seen it then GO AND SEE IT!! I enjoyed Toy Story 1 & 2, but none grips your emotion quite like this, I am a 26 year old Male and I cried like a baby at the end and so did my friend. Whilst been a continuation its very different TO 1 & 2. This film is very emotional with an amazingly written script and with very well thought out characters. Toy Story 3 had very high expectations and believe me when I say it EXCEEDED those expectations by far. This is the perfect film to take your kids to and don't feel bad if your an adult because it will make you cry just as it did with me and my friend, absolutely amazing, a huge well done and a thank you to Pixar for making such an amazing film. Will definitely be seeing this one again!!
