Hannah and Her Sisters (1986)
Anyone ever notice....
I know it's weird, but my friend this to me when watching. The last line of "Hannah and Her Sisters" is Diane Wiest saying, "I'm pregnant," which catches the viewer off guard since we think Woody is infertile. In "Bullets Over Broadway," when Cusack is in the pool hall with Chazz Palmeteri, his ghostwriter, Chazz says "Have her say she's pregnant in the last line, that'll add a nice twist" (not exact quote, but basically). Both of these lines are meant to be said by Diane Wiest. Maybe Woody is joking around that someone helped him write "Hannah and Her Sisters." Maybe not, but my friend mentioned it to me and just thought i'd post it.
"How do I know why there were Nazis? I don't even know how to work the can opener!"
The only thing "Beloved" about this was the credits
I guess Beloved is a classic book, but the adaptation is unwatchable.
Oprah and Danny Glover are obviously talented as actors, but how did the director think people would want to watch this? It's just over the top. As for Beloved's character, she made me want to vomit countless times. I don't know if the director wanted her to sound retarded, but if he did, good job! They tried way too hard and used disturbing shots to try to capture the horror of the story, but psychological horror (as used in the book) is much scarier. This was punishment to watch. I only saw it because I had to for English class. Everyone in the class dreaded this period and actually looked forward to the paper so this would be over.
No wonder this bombed.
Back to School (1986)
One of the best comedies I've ever seen
Rodney Dangerfield, the king of the one-liners, is hilarious. The movie is a personal favorite of mine. He plays the role so well and anyone would love this movie. Not only will it last the test of time, but it appeals to all ages. Screw Hollywood for remaking this comedy classic with Cedric the Entertainer. They've remade far too many movies in Hollywood and attempting to butcher a classic is pathetic and makes me sick to my stomach. I know the classic will be forever loved. Much love for comedy central showing it often. May the remake bomb like Meet Joe Black. Rodney is my hero. -peace god bless, Sammy Mo
