Pure Twisted Genius
I heard many comments about this movie from my friends and had to see if the reviews were true, and obviously they were. This film shows the genius that South Park, Matt Stone and Trey Parker are. This animated musical starts off with the gang sneaking into an R-rated film, however when they and other students start saying plenty of obscenities in school they get in major trouble with their parents. Instead of just forbidding the kids from seeing it again Kyle's mom takes further action and the parents plan to execute Terrence and Phillip. But when Cartman finds out that if they are executed then Satan and Saddam Hussein will come and rule the Earth. Will the kids be able to stop this from happening, and most importantly What Would Brian Boitano do? At first looking at the soundtrack you would imagine that the lyrics and lines in this movie are poorly written but if you listen very carefully you can see that they are perfect. I highly recommend this film, but make sure you are prepared to laugh yourself to death **********out of 10 stars
Yes another Stoner Film!
I happen to love stoner films. This one is sure to be a classic in the Genre in future years. Unlike other films this one has the characters not necesarilly as slackers. The basic plot: Harold is a twenty something conservative who's roommate Kumar is a wild card trying to get into med school. One Night they decide to get high, and after seeing an ad for White Castle they come to the agreement that they must go there. They however are disappointed when they find the White Castle that they've come to know has been replaced by a crappy burger stand. They then go on a quest to find the elusive White Castle while they meet weird characters such as Freak Show and his hot wife, a runaway cheetah, Some hicks who they steal a Truck from when their car breaks down and (gasp) Neil Patrick Harris! But the question remains: WILL THEY EVER MAKE IT TO WHITE CASTLE? All I can say is I loved this movie and I'm a Vegetarian.
Shaun of the Dead (2004)
Best Zombie Movie Ever!
I happen to be a huge fan of old Zombie flicks from the 70's and 80's (The Original Dawn of the Dead is a classic.) and couldn't wait for this to come out. This movie is just a pure work of genius British filmaking. I've noticed that in most American Movies and Soap operas the characters that are supposedly ugly and fat are still played by size 2 supermodels but this movie takes the cake for most realistic Zombie flick (which unfortunately says that other zombie movies are extremely fake character wise.) When watching this movie I actually believed that this could have actually happened, and its good that they chose a more believable place for Shaun to hang out and head to when the zombies began to come alive. The Humor was extremely funny. I give this new age Zombie flick two thumbs up.
The Day After Tomorrow (2004)
Best Comedy Feature
One of my friends saw this movie on the day it came out and told me it was the best movie they'd seen all year. But I'm not very big on weather themed movies so I avoided it until it came out on DVD, I just saw it this past weekend and it was one of the biggest laughs all year. The opening scene had me convinced I might like it. (I was like woah!) but later on in the movie I was laughing so hard I was crying. Of course there were some perilous scenes in the movie, but the airplane scene? That was the biggest ripoff of Lost that I've ever seen! It was very funny how they portrayed the Pres/Vice (So much like Bush/Cheyney that I can believe the controversy)But I was glad at the ending of the movie that wasn't to corny. This just shows you what happens with a special effects heavy movie with just a few good scenes.
Best Picture 2004
I am a huge awards show fan, so as you might guess I'm obsessed with what could win Academy awards. After the 2003 Academy awards I only had a guess of what could be best picture (The Passion of the Christ, unfortunately). However when I saw Troy that perspective changed completely. First off the cinematography is just amazing along with the art direction (the Trojan horse thakes care of that.) Second off the acting was just phenomenal! I had no idea that Eric Bana could actually be such a good actor (The only thing I had seen him in first was the Hulk so you can see why). And Brad Pitt was just outstanding. Of course there were some bad eggs (cough cough... Orlando Bloom) but the rest of the cast made up for this. With all of these aspects I predict Troy to be (or at least nominated) Best Picture 2004!
