Knock Knock (2007)
Just seen this.. not impressed
OK I'm awarding this a 4..... And that is purely because 2 scenes in the entire film were well done, turned up the gore and feeling of real gut wrenching revulsion and just about saved the film from a Zero.
So, the plot goes something like this.
Teen kids, Murderer systematically butchers them in interesting ways, police detectives follow the trail to its conclusion....
with me so far?
OK so the plot is flimsy but many horror films have fared on less and done an admirable job of telling a bad story well through good acting and well directed horror scenes. The acting in this is SHOCKING! The "beautiful detective" is just horrible, the drunken retired cop (oh dear god....... another one) is bearable at best, and you are begging for most of the kids to be slaughtered just to end the pain of having to watch them.
Kinda harsh seeing as I love trashy B rate horrors, but this really scrapes the bucket...... watch at your peril!
the tag line is "Answering the door will never be the same again!" and they are right. I will have to think of this film any time someone knocks!
Catacombs (2007)
Not a bad film!
People are slating this as a "bad" film however it is a decent enough, unnerving thriller that doesn't quite give the feeling of crushing claustrophobia the Descent does, and doesn't quite set you on the edge of your seat like monster chase films such as Creep does...
Some camera shots are a bit too "arty" for my taste, and detracts slightly from the overall effect seeing as it is a horror film, however it is easy to see what they were trying to achieve with such closed in, minimal light sourced tunneled shots that fade into the distance only as the main character rounds the bend taking the torchlight out of shot.
But overall, a good enough film with a slightly transparent ending that will either have you smiling or groaning!
Saw (2004)
bland
Over hyped, under achieving film.
Slow moving plot that unfolds 95% of the meat in the last 5 minutes. Personally, I'm gonna avoid again at all costs and, maybe catch it on sky movies in a year or so when, with the general decline of movies, this will seem like a good movie.
the bulk of the story is good in essence but unfortunately, as with most large releases this time if year, the best bits are shown in the trailer. The trailer wound me up with so much suspense and trepidation I couldn't wait to see this film. the scene with the lady and the reverse bear trap .... but to find that she was merely a filler while the story stumbled along to its bungled conclusion pretty much ruined the entire experience. and the family.....again nothing more than a device to attemp to inspire some kind of mortal compasion into the film. They didn't NEED to be there!!
rubbish rubbish rubbish
bad film
