Criminal Minds: Lauren (2011)
Well I'd say it was one heck of an episode
First of all I'd like to state that I cried SO HARD. SO FREAKING HARD. This was the first episode of Criminal Minds I ever saw and it was the reason I wanted to continue. I don't believe the last reviewer was right at all, especially comparing Lauren to similar, but lesser NCIS episodes.
Of course it has issues, but what amazes me is the fact that they were able to pull together a half season story arc that fit Emily Prentiss to a T with so little time. There was absolute chaos going on behind the scenes (with Paget and AJ being fired, and the loss of key writers) yet they managed to write a phenomenal 2-parter with great detail. Even better, Matthew Gray Gubler directed and that really made it for me. I never looked at the clock once while watching the 6 episodes in this storyline.
Paget Brewster deserves all the awards. She absolutely killed it (no pun intended) and it's strange to see her go from comedy to drama but she pulled this episode off marvelously, the woman has some serious talent. I think she deserves more credit because really, I have no words for how deep Valhalla/Lauren are. Well done everyone at CM. You had everything against you and still managed to create one of the highest rated Criminal Minds episodes ever.
Criminal Minds: Nelson's Sparrow (2015)
Actually very well done
Jason Gideon is a very touchy subject in Criminal Minds. Mandy Patinkin has obviously expressed regret about doing the show and there really was no chance he'd ever return, even for a guest spot. I believe the writers (including the lovely Kirsten Vangsness) did a pretty great job incorporating him into the show, 8 years after the fact, and not even including the original actor. That's a tough feat to pull off, but the whole episode was handled nicely.
One of the things I noticed was the detail. They incorporated elements from the early seasons like Gideon's notebook, the letter he wrote to Reid, and even the things he liked in his cabin. Spencer driving up to the cabin was almost an exact visual of the last time he did it in 3x02. And the nod to earlier seasons wasn't the only thing that stuck out for me, as the guest actors were phenomenal too. Ben Savage absolutely killed it as young Gideon, it was almost creepy how well he played the roll.
The previous reviewer did not think this episode did justice to the character, but I disagree. CM has never killed a main character over the course of 10 years (Erin Strauss wasn't a BAU team member, and Emily Prentiss actually survived). For most TV shows these days, that is a rare thing to do. They even almost killed Gideon during his exit (suicide) but Mandy disagreed with the idea so they didn't. It's definitely in character of Jason Gideon to not let a case go, to the point where it would cost him his life. In the early seasons we saw how much he cared for the people he dealt with and always seemed to come back to the job in some way. I think Nelson's Sparrow was a good way to bring closure to such a major part of CM. Well done.
Criminal Minds: 200 (2014)
AMAZING EPISODE for those loyal CM fans out there
Although some people are very critical of 200, I absolutely loved it. This was the kind of show that rewarded the viewers who have been here from the start. We get to see the lovely Paget Brewster back in her role as Emily Prentiss and some major plot holes were filled! The flashback scenes clarified a lot of the mystery surrounding Prentiss' death and JJ's transfer, and plus THEY WERE HEARTBREAKING. THE WHOLE TIME I CRIED LIKE A LITTLE KID. The use of the song blackbird and it's meaning is so touching. AJ Cook absolutely knocked it out of the park with this one! Very well done, congrats to the cast on making it this far!
My ONLY complaint is at the end they used a cover of the original version of Blackbird. Would it kill you to use the Beatles version? I hate the cover!! It sounds so off! Other than that, well done on an amazing episode. I don't recommend watching if you haven't seen season 6 yet!
Criminal Minds (2005)
Love the show, but they made a bit of a mistake...
Criminal Minds is one of my favorite shows of all time, seriously it is pretty amazing, but they are really starting to screw up season 8. And there are rumors about money issues for season 9 with characters not returning? Come on CBS. One of your biggest mistakes was losing Paget Brewster as Emily Prentiss due to the same issues. I do not like her replacement (a pretty popular opinion from what i've seen) and to lose the others too? I really miss Prentiss and don't want to lose Garcia or JJ either. Prentiss didn't even make a good exit either, just kind of left... Up until season 8 the show was a solid 10. Very nice, but stupid mistakes over money and contracts. Come on CBS.
Makes me smile every time I watch :)
I can't even express how great I find Castle. It's one of those shows that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside whenever you watch. Even If I had a seriously awful day I can come home and watch it and actually laugh and smile. Mondays are my favorite day of the week now because I can look forward to Castle being on. Yes, it has its imperfections, but so does everything. Castle is just such a great all-around show that you can invest in. If you have never watched it I strongly recommend that you do because it's that great. I started watching it as a kid when it was brand new and I am so happy to see it come as far as it did. Overall, Castle is fantastic and really the writers and actors deserve so much credit for what they've helped create!
