Discontinued (2022)
5/10
Thought provoking, yet scarce "comedy" and ZERO Special Effects.
11 May 2023
"Discontinued" is a thought-provoking sci-fi film that raises intriguing questions about the nature of reality. Ashley Hutchinson delivers a strong performance as Sarah, while Langston Fishburne's portrayal of the guide adds depth to the story. However, the film's classification as a comedy is misleading, as there are very few comedic moments. Furthermore, the lack of special effects may disappoint some viewers. Nonetheless, the plot is well-constructed and keeps the audience engaged. The ambiguous ending leaves room for interpretation, leaving viewers pondering Sarah's ultimate fate. Overall, "Discontinued" is a solid film that is worth watching, despite its flaws. The film's unique concept and strong performances make it an intriguing addition to the sci-fi genre.

Exactly what we need... in the USA, right now...

A film with heart as big as all outdoors!

Terrific character development AND acting, by two amazing young artists, with a story-line that's heart warming and realistic too.

Give this jewel a watch; you'll forget about the current troubles in the USA, at least for the movie's duration! <3.

Story written and performed at a child's level, and from a child's perspective
5 May 2022
Once you accept the totally inane impractical storyline, plot, and script, and let your (perhaps dormant?) childlike personality take over the control of your conscious mind (IE ABANDON ALL ADULT LOGIC), then this movie can be viewed, and sort of enjoyed, on that very limited basis.

That MAY be quite difficult to do, and certainly may limit the enjoyment of this ambitious CGI movie!

Thus my 5 of 10 rating. ;)

My Beautiful Man (2021– )

THIS IS NOT... your ordinary BL romance drama.
16 March 2022
Hira Kazunari, a high school student who doesn't talk much, has no friends and belongs to the bottom of his class. The person he falls in love with at first sight is Kiyoi Sou. He is "The King" who doesn't hang out with anyone, is equally ruthless, and reigns at the top of the class. With the hope Sou will notice his presence, Kazunari serves him devotedly, running errands and buying lunch. But his faith in the absolute monarch gradually falls into lust.

~~ Adapted from the novel "He, Who is Beautiful"by Nagira Yuu

Personal Note: THIS IS NOT... your ordinary BL romance drama.

It is MUCH DEEPER than that; besides the flawless performances, beautiful Japanese leading men, their characters and personalities are severely flawed, which takes some time understanding.

I actually watched the entire series THREE TIMES, (a labor of love and appreciation!) and then I finally located a TRANSLATION of the Audio Book, and read through that, one chapter after each series segment... to fully understand the depths of the characters in this story.

It's the most moving and beautiful love story that I've ever read/watched.

There is a SPANISH translation of the novel which can be opened in Chrome, then right-clicked upon and select TRANSLATE to English, etc.

Note the first 5 scenes CLOSELY match the audio book, HOWEVER, the FINAL CHAPTERS of the book are rather intensely and graphically sexual, so these ending chapters were rather "ghosted" in (PG-13 style) within the Sixth and final video segment of the series.

Deeply amateurish, gibberish plot focused on stock ownership, and worse.
16 January 2022
OMG I really wanted to like this movie, but... like I said above, the acting, sets, plot, script and more was just so very disappointing.

Getting bogged down in so many details of STOCK OWNERSHIP mid way... was just a challenge to try and stick with watching this movie to the end.

I could go on, but.. you get my point.

Inane beyond belief
12 September 2020
OMG I TRIED!! I really did... to watch this movie. I really tried to approach this "movie" with an open mind. I genuinely DIDN'T believe all the bad reviews... It couldn't be true(!), it couldn't be accurate! Well... BOTTOM LINE, a childish plot, with childish dialog, inane story-line, and just simply... unwatchable. I gave up after about 40 or 45 minutes in, because it was getting even worse, and even more convoluted, and THAT, along with the simply dreadful cast/acting... I couldn't bear to watch another minute. Oh well!!! 45 minutes of my life I'll never get back (as they say), and YES I do regret that. Live and Learn!

Maybe my MOST ENJOYABLE movie I've watched this year!!!
15 November 2018
OMG, I just finished watching this amazing movie...!!! I spread watching it out over 4 days... just to be able to enjoy it... to the max. What a BRILLIANT original story... whereas I am NOT one to usually watch a romantic movie... this one was so FAR "Out Of The Box" (not to mention "gender-bending:") that I loved every second of "Every Day". LOVED the movie (SO MUCH!) and LOVED the book (SO MUCH) but both very different!!!
16 April 2018
Well, I finished the book last night, and I have to say that it was just AMAZING how so LITTLE of the book... actually made it into the movie!!!

AND how MUCH of the movie plot was TOTALLY NEW (IE totally different from the book!)

If I had disliked either the book or the movie... that might have been a criticism... but in THIS case, BOTH book and movie STOOD on its own; and STOOD WELL.

So I'm just saying... that I'm rather amazed what a TOTAL rewrite the movie received, and given that, how incredibly GOOD the movie turned out to be!!

One of the things about the book that I loved so much was the detail in which the author referenced ALL the VERY EARLY video games, and VERY EARLY computers!

As someone who had purchased a Radio Shack TRS-80 as my first computer, moving on to Apples, and MANY of the other early computers in my early employment (anyone remember the PDP11-23???) the degree of nostalgia, just regarding the litany of EARLY computers that Ernest Cline reviewed, repeatedly, in the book... was music to my ears.

Then ADD TO THIS the DETAILS of playing the VERY EARLY video games; we're talking Asteroids, Galaga, Donkey Kong, Joust, Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Battlezone, Table Tennis for Two, Q*bert, and Tempest!! These were MY favorite arcade games, but really, just a PORTION of the whopping 57 computer/arcade games, mentioned in the book.

I CAN understand the need for a re-write, to make this story comprehensible to the modern audience (avoiding the details of playing the games, as is in the book), while still including enough of the references to the legacy early computers and arcade games... NOT TO MENTION the early Techy Movies (such as "War Games") and early Adventure movies (over 87 movies were referenced directly!) to really connect, directly to me. OK, yeah, I'm 68 years old now, LOL, but young at heart... for eternity.

I think it's VERY RARE, and nearly IMPOSSIBLE for ANY movie, ANY story, to manage to bridge the gap between generations, as well as "Ready Player One" managed to do. This MAY be (IMHO) the MOST successful movie (and book!) to have managed to pull this feat off! I really can't think of a near second!.

Lastly, I will say that I feel privileged to have been able to watch "Ready Player One" in a modern Hi-Tech Digital theater (yes, they have those in (expat) Thailand, LOL), as the amazing graphics and graphic realizations within the movie deserve to be seen on the BIG SCREEN. Having said THAT, I can't wait for a HD version of this to show up on the Internet, as I TRULY need to watch it a few more times, to be able to catch all the nuances I'm sure I missed the first time, as I was being totally overwhelmed by this masterpiece of Steven Spielberg; quite possibly one of his finest works, if not his finest.

What amazes me the most...
17 October 2017
What amazes me the most about this film are the reviews that said words to the effect "I had to watch it again and again" etc. etc.

The ONLY spellbinding aspect of this movie that kept me mildly enthralled was wondering ...will this movie EVER get any better, or even have a real "point" that I can take away from this??? ...is this movie a lead-up to a suspenseful climax??? Something that will make all this time I've spent watching it... worth while? Sadly, both answers were no.

I found the plot simply ludicrous and unbelievable on so many levels... this COULD not and WOULD not have EVER played out like this... in real life.

I virtually NEVER give a movie ONE star, but I've made the exception here.

Simply dreadful.

The Orville: If the Stars Should Appear (2017)
Season 1, Episode 4
5/10
OMG I hope this isn't a preview of this show taking itself too seriously!!!
9 October 2017
I thoroughly enjoyed episodes 1 - 3... finally a sci-fi series that had a GOOD sense of humor, good writing, all the fresh qualities that made me fall in love with this show, to start with.

HOWEVER!!! THIS episode... seemed to seriously switch genres, going into VIOLENT directions (watching #1, the EX, get beaten up bloody... was disturbing), lacking the deep humor...

All in all with a direction as to standard traditional (taking itself seriously) standard morality plays, with a less than original story-line, to make matters worse.

I'm SO HOPING this was a complete FLUKE, and this show will get back on track, being a funny, creative and compelling SCI-FI series... as we witnessed in the first three episodes!!! Hoping!!! ...for the best, for a resumption... where we have never gone before, etc. etc.!

DIFFICULT (for the squeamish and faint of heart) to watch!!
26 July 2017
OK! I'll admit that I have somewhat of a sensitive and gentle-hearted type of personality... yet I LOVE TERRIFICALLY unique movies... that are both WELL-Written, suspenseful, well-directed, and well-acted.

THAT all being said... I'll be honest...

IT TOOK ME TWO WEEKS to finally finish watching this movie (by only being able to watch a couple minutes at a time!!)!!! Squeamish {me AND the movie}... beyond belief.

FINALLY, with the SUN still UP outside {pre-sunset}... I managed to get PAST the many scenes with Chris Washington strapped into that chair...

...and THEN, managing to CONTINUE watching... to the AMAZING END.

BOTTOM LINE? FANTASTIC MOVIE, but NOT for the Faint of Heart.

Whew!!! TWO WEEKS!!! Superb acting / directing / script / story-line!!!!

Crazy INSANE to think the SEQUEL was even BETTER than the ORIGINAL!!!
28 April 2017
...but it's true, IMHO...

Totally expected the sequel to be doing the usual "sequel slacker", but I have to say that I found the WRITING simply SUPERB, and the truly FUNNY humor... to be LAUGH OUT LOUD quality!!!! Simply brilliant...

Character development was superb, and the ACTING??? Not a single character OVER-ACTING; Chris Pratt... perfectly restrained.

Here's hoping this series can continue upward and onward... and judging by some teaser scenes of Vol. 3 in the closing credits... it's ON!!!

Dreadful Script, Awful Acting, VERY Poor Plot Development...
13 April 2017
ah beyond the title summary... POOR casting choice for the goateed adult lead actor; NOTHING realistic in the scenes, ZERO chemistry between the supposed lead actors, both the younger and older versions... OVERACTED scenes...

I literally cringed every time they kissed... and I'm a huge gay kiss enthusiast, but between THESE guys??? Something quite unnatural about it all...

The closing scenes... just unbelievable and unrealistic.

I have to be honest, it was PAINFUL to sit through this movie, and the ONLY reason I persisted was... I HAD to see if there was ANY way... that it could get WORSE, as it progressed.

And... I wasn't disappointed; it actually managed... to get worse.

Basic story premise COULD have been decent, for a great gay film... but with all the above mentioned SEVERE flaws... it was a terrific example in just HOW to make a REALLY dreadful, awful, unwatchable movie.

A disappointing venue for Asa Butterfield
8 March 2017
Well, saw this in the theater last night...

As a huge fan and admirer of Asa Butterfield's talent... I was really looking forward to this...

Instead...??? I found a childish plot, sloppy storytelling, poor direction, questionable acting performances... and the major plot twist... basically telegraphed, from the start.

So sad... Asa Butterfield deserves FAR BETTER motion pictures than this poor excuse for a motion picture...

What was he thinking, when he signed on for this lame project??? Next???

A Gem, somewhat hidden, at first...
11 August 2015
This too, for me, was initially so dreadful (and I thought... potentially depressing) a story (initially) that I stopped watching it after about 20 minutes...

BUT!!! A couple months later, I watched Kristen Wigg in "Bridesmaids" (a second time, this time to observe Ms. Wigg)... and realized (in addition to her talents shown in "Welcome to Me") that Kristen was actually a POWERFUL actress, with a BROAD range of talent and acting ability...

SO... I gave it another chance, last night, realizing that this NON-major NON-Hollywood production was a personal acting choice for Kristen, for the real CHALLENGE it presented...!!! and I'm SO very glad I did.

I started over, watching it from the beginning, with a new understanding of the role.

Her line "I have what I want." was such a moving moment (and resonated as a point of strength and stability that I happen to really need (a nightmare boss) to realize in MY life) that it became something of a mantra, to put my mind to rest, last night.

Now, having watched Kristen Wigg perform in "Girl Most Likely" and "The Skeleton Twins", I'm simply filled with admiration for what I consider her phenomenal talent, as a versatile actress.

I want to add that I thought Guy Pierce was FLAWLESS, and (little downer here) Nick Nolte's facial features... were (how to put this...) disturbing and distracting.

Otherwise... a TERRIFIC Film!!!
