Downfall (2004)

this is the best....
21 December 2004
Who better to make a WWII film than the Germans themselves? This is possibly the best WWII film I have seen yet. It is a very intense movie about the final days of Adolf Hitler (a SUPERB roll played by Bruno Ganz, he should get at least one Oscar for this...) which had me coming back to see the movie a second and even a third time (I saw T3 only twice, he he). And not only Bruno Ganz has done a great performance, the entire cast gives it all their best. Very good film indeed.

As I said, it's a film about Adolf Hitlers final days, trapped in a bunker in Berlin, while the Russians are slowly moving closer. Hitler losing his faith in a 'good' outcome, the final bullet, everything is has happened for real. But when I left the cinema I had the idea I had just been watching a fictional story. A perfect script, made in real life 59 years ago. Not much to say about anything else. If you are interested in WWII stuff, go see it in the cinema, it's worth every penny.

Another piece of the American movie pie...
8 October 2004
Why do American movies always have to have some bitter sweet love story. There is always some father who doesn't take good care of his kids, divorced from his wife, kids get in trouble, boy loves girl, girl loves boy, jadajadajada. Cut all this s**t out and you might actually have an entertaining movie. O and they added some wolves (ehr, computer animations they want to look like wolves but they look more like the wolf from American werewolf in London), and 3 guys in some sort of arctic station or something, drinkin' scotch when it gets colder, but you never see them at the end of the movie. What's the matter guys, run out of money? The idea of the movie is nice, and it works well with the issues of global warming we are facing today, but, come on, tornado's in LA??? A ship in downtown NYC??? A Russian SHIP?????? How far fetched can you get. And in the end......they all survive. The only good parts in these movie are: the kid in the plane, on his way to NYC when the oxygenmasks come dropping down right in front of him, that actually made me laugh, the view from the space station, looking down on a few massive storms. And the idea of cold winds dropping down into the eye of the storms was OK as well. But if you are looking for an good movie, with a lot of thrills and entertainment, you might as well go see Titanic instead...

If you like rock n roll and movies with kids, you're gonna love this one.
6 August 2004
The storyline is far from original. There are a thousand movies with the same kind of plot (guy wants to do something, doesn't get it done, gets fired, money trouble, has an idea, lies to everybody and everything, gets the thing he wants done, gets caught, but does his trick in the end, and everybody is happy). That's as far as the negative comments go. Besides the somewhat predictable storyline, the movie is great. I really enjoyed all the classic artists and music being pumped into it. It is like a rock n roll hall of fame. And the best part of this movie is (a real jaw dropper): THE KIDS ACTUALLY PLAY THEIR INSTRUMENTS!!!!! It is not fake, and you know what? THEY ROCK. And Jack Black? He is funny, crazy, good performer, good actor, and yeah, he is playing the SG. So if you like kids, if you like the 'old school' rock n roll, then you HAVE to see this one.
