Scary Tales (2011)
Truly awful acting, but the history behind the tales is worth it.
(note: I'm only writing this review because IMDb keeps prodding me to, and this series didn't have one when I wrote this. Apologies if my review writing isn't topnotch, as some authors in this site clearly are. Thanks!) I think many people know these days that fairy tales aren't as 'Disney-fied' as we're taught while growing up, but, though I pride myself on my endless amount of (useless?) trivia, even I was a little shocked at some of the history tidbits. Perhaps particularly entertaining - and- grotesque --possibly spoilerish-- was the ultimate fate of the Evil Queen at the end Snow White. Truly glorious revenge. The shortcoming of this series, though, was certainly the acting. It. Is. AWFUL. I found myself looking away from the TV and just listening during almost the entire series. Even then, the terrible delivery of the actors and the hodgepodge of accents was quite, quite, quite noticeable. I can only assume the budget was excruciatingly low. Still, if you're a lover of history and enjoy a bit of trivia, this'll provide you with quite a bit of both. As a sidenote for parents, whilst I have no children, if you're reading through Netflix titles and think this may be something for your kids, I might reconsider that...unless you're prepared to do a LOT of explaining.
