In 1990 Brazilian president Fernando Collor de Mello closed Embrafilme, an state-owned agency created in 1969 to fund national cinema. After that, productions almost reached zero 'till mid 90s, when the so called "Retomada" (Reconquest) began. The 2000s symbolizes more a maturity period than a film school like Cinema Novo.
