Iron Man: Rise of Technovore (2013)
Runs like an Extended Episode
The Animation is probably the strongest part of this installment of this Iron Man production. The Voice Acting could use some work on the supporting cast though. The story begins as we are placed dead centre in the middle of another technological marvel as Stark is trying to change the world. However bad guys don't take a Vacation. Stark has to fix things before its too late. And that's my problem with this movie. The only sense of urgency seems to come from Stark and its not very convincing because the Antagonist is way too enigmatic. Even when the pseudo-philosophical mechanized angst driven plot unravels you don't really care, assuming you understand what everyone's motives actually are. The Antagonist is dreary, his monologuing is distracting and his intentions in-genuine. However, cameo appearances from a few heroes in Marvel universe make up for this. Overall its a shaky 7/10. It could have been 30 mins shorter and just as sweet.
Spiders 3D (2013)
A low budget movie that takes itself too seriously
By the time the credits roll you've just had quite enough of the infestation. Spiders (avoid the 3D if you can) starts off on a passé premise and one or two scenes that makes your skin crawl, but any spider movie would do that.
The Actors are horrible. The mother (female MJ) has the worst timing and insincere line delivery ever witnessed on screen. She whines, is pathetic and really did drag down what would have been a 90min laugh to a drone.
Father, train technician and giant spider killer on the weekends. Totally believable.
The CGI should have won us over but it was so inconsistent my head hurt. The size of the Queen changed from a 3 storey gargantuan to barely the size of a subway train dueling with our Hero. WTF?! The military was so inept I'm surprised they knew which end of the barrel bullets exited.
And finally the end scene. A spider can take Rocket fire, mortar, bullet hail, Tank fire and Apache gunship missiles, but turns in train track kill? But the little spider that caused all this survived a fall from outer space!! My head hurts.
Stranger: Mukô hadan (2007)
A classic Story done Well
I was told to Watch this Movie because the Action Sequences were top notch. Fortunately it delivers even More. The Story isn't new but there is just enough Charisma And Character development to make you care about the Antagonist. The Child and Dog Relationship feels real, and unlike other anime kids that just annoy, get in the way and frustrate the audience Kotoruo has a lot of strength for a Boy his age.
The Movie takes a Lull after the amazing opening fight sequence to deliver some debatable but needed exposition which lost me for a few minutes but things begin to pick up again and it pulls together in a spectacular finish.
The fight scenes. Oh the fight scenes. The attention to detail is Top Notch, and the camera angles keep you in battle without being too nauseating and bodies drop enough blood to satisfy the most avid sword fight fans.
The musical Score is catchy as it is beautiful. I do feel it gets a tad repetitive in some instances but is easily forgivable.
All in all its a fine movie and I'm a little embarrassed it took me so long to see it post release.
