I Heart Huckabees (2004)
In fact Existential...
In a year of blockbuster/epic movies (i.e. Spiderman 2, Troy, Chronicles of Riddick) that soul purpose is to make money and sell product, finally we received a movie with heart, it's even in the title.
"I Heart Huckabees" revolves around the idea of existentialism, an idea that has no real definition. For a writer to dive into such a broad subject, and such a subjective subject took balls, and he accomplished it with poise and humor.
The characters in this movie are played to a T. Mark Whalberg I must say surprised the me in the best possible way and nearly stole every scene he was in. Jude Law played the sneaky and cocky exuctive salesman very well, and sometimes made it very hard to hate him, because he was so charming in fact, and he portrayed it so well. Jason Schwartzman (spelling?) did an excellent job as always and was very funny but very real and ambiguous in doing so.
The fact is it's the deepest comedy I've seen in years, the fact that someone made philosophy funny and entertaining, while staying tasteful and tactful makes this movie at the top of my list for 2004, do yourself a favor and check it out, I doub't you'll be that disappointed.
