Conventional documentary
30 March 2009
I saw this documentary yesterday on the BAFICI (Buenos Aires International Independent Film Festival) with the presence of Mann.

He told us that Jim Jarmusch (who is keen on mushrooms) suggested him to do this movie, which he did with a very reduced budget. My opinion is that he was not very interested on making the movie, he become interested while he was doing it, thats why I think he does not have a clear point of view about the subject, he is just a witness.

It contains testimonies from mushroom experts, scenes from the mushroom festival in Colorado, extracts from old educational films and old cartoons which make references to mushrooms (just like on his previous work "Grass"). He covers different mushroom purposes (for cooking, for tripping, for medicine, for environmental benefits) without dragging very deep into each one, it just give you a general and superficial outlook.

worth the try
19 October 2006
if you notice that this film will be projected near you, check it out.

is really hard to comment or explain this experiment. i think it was a extraordinary exercise for my mind and for everyone's mind in the cinema. thats why i strongly recommend to watch this one. and please watch it in a big screen with a lot of people. everyone will think that there are some problems with the projector or player but don't worry because this film is "like that".

i saw this film alongside 2 documentary shortcuts: "Sur le passage de quelques personnes à travers une assez courte unité de temps" and "Critique de la séparation".

Great Tribute to Gato Perez
2 May 2005
This is the story of El Gato Perez, an Argentinean who left his country and went to Spain, where he settled to do what he loved, rumba. This musical-documentary consists on 15 songs (written by El Gato Perez and performed by different Spanish groups), the history and anecdotes of his life told by his daughters, wives, mother and, above all, his friends. The movie is filled with lot of rhythms from Central and South America and Spain, its a must-see for every lover of these amazing styles of music and, of course, for everyone who's keen on dancing. It gives us a great and unique opportunity to learn a bit about the crazy life of this man who do not deserves forgetfulness.

Considerably emotional carbonic animation
15 April 2005
I've just seen Ryan Larkin's "Syrinx" along with other two creations of this brilliant animator, "Street Musique" and "Walking" during the Buenos Aires Festival of Independent Cinema and I must say that this one wasn't as good as the other two, but anyway, the incredible combination between drawings and classical music let you spend 3 minutes of relax and visual amusement. I've felt it pretty much more because previously it was projected the Oscar winner "Ryan", which pays homage to Ryan Larkin, and "Alter Egos", which is the making of Ryan and a biography of him. In conclusion, it's a must see for all the animation adepts, not only this one, but clearly every single Larkin creation.
