A Fully Saved Christian Who is Forced to Watch Lucifer in Secret!
Not bad for a Soap Opera title, right? But it happens to be 100% true. Unlike my other "family in Christ," I can watch a funny send up of the entire religion thing because BEING a full-on believer in Jesus Christ is the religion NOT the churches so-called Christians who seem to easily mix weird words from man and often worship whoever their priest or pastor is instead of believing you can read the Bible with friends and/or family and get the message. Not just GET the message, but also watch fun, entertaining Hollywood nonsense and not stray from the pack!
On behalf of the many more sold out Christians, I apologize for those who are brain-washed or generally wobbly about their faith. He gave us FREE WILL. He knows our heart. And He trusts us as we trust Him. Period. It's JUST ENTERTAINMENT (and excellent entertainment at that!).
Now to the show. Yes, Tom Ellis and Lauren German are beautiful and I loved every minute of seasons 1 and 2. Bringing in Tom Welling was the networks' most brilliant move so far this season. While other shows are bleeding characters (Hawaii five-0 comes to mind and others), Lucifer is pushing the ante up by throwing my hero for many, many years, Tom Welling, into the mix and who can argue with Superman? The show revolves around Lucifer, DB Woodside his hunky brother, Amenadiel, and Lauren German as the beautiful cop who starts out trying to catch Lucifer as a criminal but let's say a romance evolves, and Lucifer/Amenadiel's mother, played by Tricia Helfer, who I'm not sure is in this season, and Rachel Harris, total comedy relief is Lucifer's therapist.
That's pretty much the show - now why I watch it. Simply put: it's pure entertainment. Not heavy, a lot of humor, great ensemble cast, and a far fetched story meant NOT to hurt or help NOT to damage one's own belief. If your faith is that sketchy that what is basically a fantasy show, then I'm afraid you'd better never let your kids watch ANY Disney movie! I live my life out of joy in my faith, not looking over everybody else's shoulder telling them what they should and should not do. And if you all think I'm kidding about being a full on Christian, I will give you my Christian search and final acceptance story including a prophesy gift God gave me during my last operation. NOTHING WILL EVER SHAKE MY FAITH IN GOD AND Jesus Christ. But I am ashamed of many brothers and sisters still in their baby seat, sucking their thumbs, afraid of liberals, afraid of a bad word, afraid of Lucifer! Because I love this show as does my SAVED husband - who actually watched it first 2 years ago and said, "Kathy, you are going to LOVE this show," to which I responded "HEATHEN! Get thee behind me Satan," and then here I am, 2 years later writing this. It's one of those "Didn't see THAT coming," things.
I love this show people! Come love it with me! You won't lose your salvation over it! And non-believers, you have no excuse! Also, if you (ABC) Change this winning formula to a darker side of everything: BIG MISTAKE! Don't fix what isn't broken!!
The Orville (2017)
Best New Show of the Season
THERE MIGHT BE SOME SPOILERS OF FIRST EPISODE. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!
I almost didn't watch this show because I am familiar with Seth McFarland's material and find him crude and way too political - 2 things that WILL make me change the channel. Then I got curious and read a review by another intelligent average person that changed my mind figuring I can ALWAYS turn it off.
For those of you who want to watch a funny, amazingly entertaining, and like another reviewer stated, retaining the sweetness and positive, peaceful journey Star Trek was meant to portray, with intelligence and great lines - WATCH THIS AMAZING show. However, I've only seen one episode, and things can change. I hope not! If Seth McFarland can make such a wonderful show, it gives me hope that Hollywood who is lamenting their downfall will all begin to ponder - maybe this divisive political "finding one's self" isn't what people want to watch! We work hard, we make enough money to put food on the table, maybe get a house and car, and DON'T want to be preached to by a bunch of wealthy people who spend all their money supporting one political side. We simply want to be entertained!
The Orville is almost the perfect entertaining show. It is highly entertaining with only 2 minor political reference tripwires (so far - I know those two political references that almost made me turn it off. The Orville would do much better leaving them out!). Except for that, they would have gotten a 10 from me. Give it a chance PLEASE, Mr. McFarland. We, the average nobodies, don't care who you worship at your political altars, knock them off and keep up what you did in the first episode or I will come in, alter this review and give it 1 Star. Please keep it light and sweet and Star Trek and everything it stands for. Those two male aliens are the funniest part of your ensemble except the whole kid changing sex thing - another tripwire for us nobodies who will make or break this show!!
Please, Mr. McFarland, leave ANY politics out of it! You have a beautiful, funny show. If it gets worse, you will lose us nobodies who can make or break this show! Don't think through the prism of politics. You won't win with that junk. Stick with what you did in the first episode and I honestly think you will have a hit!
Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (2014)
Excellent Action Movie
I'm not going to go into plot and all since the 170 so reviews before this one have pretty much already described that. I am writing this review because of my absolute shock at the level of negative reviews on this movie. Did all the haters write reviews or what?
No, this isn't an artsy far$$y, coming of age, politically correct, message-of-the-day type of movie I want to BURN in a pile because it seems that is all that is coming out these days. Henry Cavill and Bruce Willis just did a similar (not quite as good) movie recently (sorry the name isn't coming to me) and it got torched by snooty reviewers, too.
I, for one, was delighted to just sit and watch a great action movie with eye candy, Chris Pine, as the lead. Something that was highly entertaining, full of great action, and NO POLITICAL BS to wade through. This movie was simply fun. I say that for all of you naysayers, for crying out loud, don't be so piggy. Some of us still want to see the thriller movies like the original Jack Ryan movies and the Lethal Weapon. I understand about violence and making the poor Russians look bad (per one reviewer - really? Do you NOT read or watch the news??? Putin must have cried at the end that the plot failed - no spoiler - we WATCH these movies because some of us are still realists and understand that Russia has been heavily financing the terrorists in Syria, Afghanistan, and now Iraq). It was wonderful to see a good old good guys (U.S.) vs. bad guys movie and the good guys win!!!!
Geez, people. Not everything has to be centered around some relevant principle you all here seem to want. This movie was meant to be entertainment and it got 10 stars from me because it fulfilled that Bill very well for me. I, personally, hope to see more of these wonderful, armchair gripping thrillers coming out of the entertainment industry in the future. I miss them!! Thank you Sir Kenneth Branagh for the great entertainment - don't let the haters stop you from making another exciting movie! I think I speak for most average people here. If we want complicated drama, we'll live our everyday life. When we go to the theater, pay the big bucks, most of us want to leave that heavy drama at the door and simply be entertained for a couple hours!
The Blacklist (2013)
Best Show Of The 2013 - 2014 Season. NBC Finally Hits One Out Of The Park
Th he Blacklist has already been disseminated and discussed herein quite sufficiently. But I might have something to add here. I watched Season 1 twice and encourage you to watch it again if you only watched it once. No spoilers, but knowing the finale, I found myself in tears many times the 2nd time around just knowing what was coming up.
I also want to add that if the Emmys pass James Spader by on this one, I will forever lose faith in them. After 22 episodes, twice, there is no actor comparable to Mr. Spader as Red Reddington in The Blacklist. Also, I hope the show goes up and wins, yes, even against the absolute excellence of Game of Thrones!
While the story itself isn't new to scripted television, what is new is the intelligence seen in every aspect of the story. The superb cast, the incredible writing and direction and production, and finally, the best season finale of any show in years!! This finale is not meant to be a cliffhanger, or a tease for the next season. It is a stand alone gift all wrapped up with the most perfect bow to the viewers.
What differentiates The Blacklist from every other show is that it assumes its viewers are intelligent, average people who simply want spectacular entertainment at the end of a long day. And it delivers in such a humble, simple way, yet is jaw dropping in what it conveys. THIS is the show average viewers want. No hidden messages about politics, no big outrageous "look at me, aren't I the best" endings. Simple and subtle and not complicated yet total excellence.
Looking forward to watching the next Emmys and the worthy Blacklist show and James Spader walking off the stage holding a well earned reward.
