The Hitcher (2007)
Born to Be Wild....
I don't know why most people go to see a horror movie, but for me personally, it is more about the excitement and the creativity, than an award winning script or intricate technology. I thought The Hitcher had an interesting premise and i was intrigued mostly because this was an every man story. Anyone could be these two young people. I also agreed with the casting choices, relatively unknown actors with the exception of Sean Bean as the hitcher. I thought they all did a wonderful job with what they had and Sean Bean was truly terrifying.
On the other hand, I thought many of the scenerios were a bit unbelievable. (if you see the movie you will understand what I mean) The important thing is that the people involved in making the film believe in what they are doing and usually the audience will follow. This is where the hitcher lost steam. It seems like they were not sure which direction they wanted to travel in so they dabbed into a little bit of everything.
Something I also noticed, was how there was really no set up for suspense! The movie just dove right into the guts and blood. What makes "Jaws", "The Blair Witch Project" and even more recently "The Descent" work is the suspense that slowly builds.
The movie was fine, but it could have been a lot better, had they thought through a couple things like plot structure and use of suspense.
Young Men On A Journey Of Self Discovery
I went into the movie with high expectations. A well rounded cast and interesting story line brought me to the theater. What kept me sitting there, completely enthralled...everything. I'm always very critical, but i really cant think of anything to change. Even the supporting cast, characters who had a few lines, made an impact on me. You really felt like you were next to gyllenhaal and sarsgaard. Not only was it was filmed beautifully, but the dialog was completely in tune. It was funny and sad and suspenseful. It had everything and more. This was movie i have been waiting for all summer and into fall! This better get some nods come this December. Peter and Jake deserve it. They finally should get some recognition for their amazing performances!!!
The Forgotten (2004)
The Forgotten should not be so easily forgotten... (spoilers)
Lately when i have been going to the movies, i find myself disappointed and uninterested. Numerous times i have guessed the endings and other times the ending is just not working right. I truly believe that this movie was striving for something different and special. They achieved what they wanted to on a certain level, but it lacked in a few places. Domonick and Julianne and were fantastic. Gary did the best he could with cardboard cut out role. The plot lacked in a few places...you will see when you watch. The script at times were laughable when they definitely weren't mean't to be funny. And for how long do we need to see Julianne and Domonick run... Anyway, i felt also that the movie was just kind of going all over the place...but in an okay way. It's hard to explain and you won't know what i'm talking about until you see it! I totally suggest you see it, i liked it. Although it had a few flaws, it scared me... it made me think about things on a whole different level...sounds like a good movie to me!
