Makes "Joe Versus the Volcano" look like "Citizen Kane." Just terrible. What were these people thinking? A complete waste of Nicole Kidman, who spoke thru this whole movie as a breathless bimbo. Will Farrell also was wasted in this. Just screaming for a plot, or even a decent attempt at one. I take a look at the people who rated this a "10" and then I look at the cast list and the number matches exactly. I am not sure I have ever seen a Nora movie I liked but I have to wonder what Penny Marshall was thinking. I am not certain what the box office was of this but... Wow. It was terrible. Is Elizabeth Montgomery dead? She could have been cast in this if not. Wait...she could have been cast in this regardless and improved the cast.
Deux frères (2004)
Pretty good family fare
Don't pay attention to that other review saying this was not a good family film. It is a fine family film, one that will provide you a good reason to discuss the pros and cons of hunting with your children. The potentially distasteful parts are handled well...my youngest children understood very well.
This has a point of view though... so be sure to explain the movie to the kids when you get home. It's not animated fare that they can just digest.
Guy Pearce is excellent... (would make a nice James Bond) and steals the show. Excellently shot... I kept wondering how some of the shots were obtained.
Garden State (2004)
Tour de force for Zach Braff
I think the Premiere magazine mini review said it best... "Braff is an auteur...who knew?"
Who knew indeed!
I was lucky enough to catch the premiere of this movie at the LA Film Festival. To say I was impressed would be an understatement.
For this to be a first-time effort is incredible. The movie has such subtle humor...the crowd was laughing out loud for most of the show.
The difference between this movie and most is this one is intelligent. One line of all "he's only a fast-food knight" is due to be the most remembered line of 2004.
I don't want to give away too much of this movie, or any of it, so you all can discover what I did. Suffice to say Braff gives a superb performance as a writer and that helps him deliver as an actor and director.
Natalie Portman can act! Not since "The Professional" have we seen her better.
The soundtrack alone is worth the ticket price.
Go see this movie!!
