American Psycho (2000)
This is an excellent film, since the first reel, Bale shows how to be a real first class actor, he is perfect for this role, every phrase, every situation and all the dialogues are superb, great screenplay. The soundtrack is filled with cool songs and the score is smooth, the mixture of Yuppie, music, and life style is well made, giving an extraordinary dark vision, incredible detailed, each moment is unique. The direction couldn't be better, is fun from beginning to end, very violent and sexual twisted, hidding the sick secrets of Bateman till he uncovers the truth with a phone call. Well I give a this film a true 5 five stars rating, specially for Christian Bale's performance.
Sudden Death (1995)
Van Damme`s bet movie yet
After working with Peter Hyams in Timecop, Van Damme returns in this non-stop thrills action flick. I think is the best movie of Jean Claude Van Damme yet, Peter Hyams relies on a powerful soundtrack, countdown climax and several explosions and fights to create tension. It`s a predictable action movie, but it`s far better than others that try to do the same thing. Van Damme fights are well coreographed and Steven Kemper(editor) work is impressive, the music score add suspense and Van Damme`s performance is quite acceptable. Peter Hyams uses the same ¨weapon¨ for the ¨hero¨ of the movie, like The Relic, a made-at-home bomb blows bad seeds away. The hockey sudden death match works perfectly with the hero issues.
Bad Boys II (2003)
Michael Bay's overloaded panache
A big budget film, which clearly shows how Bay proves to be one the best action directors of all time. Much better than the first one, Bad Boys 2 it's pure fun, even for it's running time(147 mins), Martin Lawrence gives a better performance than Will Smith, the situations in the film are crazy and funny, Lawrence comments about a couple of rats having sex human style is an excess of bizarre humor. Michael Bay seems to be a Miami fan, but also a great filmmaker, explosions and car chases are impressive and overloaded with dead bodies, flying cars, and village destruction, a great spectacle. The sound is charged with dynamic surround field, which makes Bad Boys 2 an excellent experience, pure fun, pure noise, pure Bay.
Wild Things (1998)
The Playboy bible
This film could be described as a memorable erotic thriller, and I should say that is Matt Dillon's best performance yet, His character: Sam Lombardo, it's a twisted, pervert and it has style. The girl duo: Campbell and Richards are perfect cast for this genre, All the other ¨Blue Bay¨ citizens are first rate acting. The Jeffrey Kimball cinematography is pure, detailed and natural, the night scenes are great too, but is the score that makes Wild Things a true five stars movie. George Clinton's ultra-sexy soundtrack matches with the plot and characters like I never seen before. Total complete fun from the beginning to end, the sexual threesome it has a brilliant balance, without turning into a porn flick, It could be named ¨THE PLAYBOY BIBLE¨ for those who like choreographed sexual situations and unexpected moments.
End of Days (1999)
The best of Peter Hyams
This is the best movie directed by Peter Hyams yet, it has a faster-than-light editing, great cinematography, superb music and cool action scenes, the final climax is awesome, and Schwarzenegger is more vulnerable than others characters he played, The dream team made an excellent movie (Peter Hyams, Steven Kemper, John Debney), The soundtrack it has mixture of suspense, apocalypses, and redemption, all in one for a class A action thriller movie. Peter Hyams clichés, natural/dark cinematography, fast editing, pulse-pounding soundtrack are clearly print on the film. The action sequences are very well storyboarded, too many things happens at the same time, explosion, shootouts, helicopter chase, alley fight, weird fights(see old woman), religious opinions and scary possessions. This film is 100% entertainment.
