A rollicking British Thriller, simple entertainment.
Liked this film loads because it is is quintessentially British apart from its visual style which is slick.
Sean bean plays the down at heals, troubled tortured and brutal agent with a dark past, he does it as he always does it, with minimal fuss and brooding intensity.
The British terrorist is played well by Abhin Galeya, it shows how these British born guys go and do these horrible things but not in much detail as the film is primarily entertainment but that doesn't mean its not smart but hey look. a terrorist gets shot in mid air, so its not that realistic but it is entertaining.
The action is tough no nonsense, a real gritty feel to it and skillfully done. It looks like it hurt. Some superb stunts in here. The plotting is lean and fast paced.
Charlotte Rampling is a class act all the way and plays her part with finesse as do the other actors in the film.
All in all a rollicking cracking old fashioned British thriller old boy, wot wot!!
High intensity delivered to the vein!
Trainspotting manages to be both hilarious, disturbing, tense, exhilarating and poignant; a heroin trip that is all style. Renton and his pals traipse the disturbing highs and low lifes of Edinburgh in the id 90's.
We watch the three junkies to get off heroin then get back on it. We follow them as they deal with their lives, surprisingly normal personal life like girlfriend and the things they will go through to keep their sordid habit afloat.
Danny Boyle, never portrays the heroin addiction of these characters as horrific, like life it is much more complicated than that. the highs of the drug are shown in beautiful imagery. We are all at once drawn to these characters lifes but also repulsed by them at the same time but importantly we care about them, which is a real testament of the writing.
The acting is of the highest order, Boyle's directing is the best it has been ever, has it really been matched by the global hit Slumdog, i don think so, with this he really hit a all time high.
Trainspotting is a charcoal blacker than black comedy of historic proportions.
The Meaning of Life (1983)
Do 1 more film guys!
I love this goddamn hilarious laugh out loud pee yourself movie!!
I know that the python team one and all think it is their weakest effort but I disagree strongly.
The sketch with eric idle playing the waiter where he walks them through the restaurant an then across the road and then eventually into the park and he divulges what he thinks the meaning of life is and the long pause when he begins to insult the viewer is hysterical and pure comic genius.
But the most memorable and unforgettable sketch that everyone sites is Mr Creasote. The bucket to vomit, the extended and brilliantly observed vomiting on the cleaning lady, every pause in the sequence is hysterical, the wafer thin mint at the end the final insane cous de grace.
I heard the pythons have a screenplay about the crusades written years ago which was never made, please make guys guys, the world needs more python chuckles.
Its Christmas in heaven!!
Das Leben der Anderen (2006)
I cant remember a more well thought out, intelligently observed and subtle screenplay, Hollywood take note here, people like to see smart films.
I heard in his commentary florian said it took him 3 years to write the screenplay and I can say why. The thought behind it is rigorous and many points are taken care of wherein in other screenplays they are rushed or covered in illogical steps from A to B.
The ink stain is a genius touch and something it so simple but yet so beautiful at the same time.
The shame is Florian ruined his reputation slight with his follow up but I'm positive he will come back with a piece of work that will take him to the heights of this film.
A first class effort.
