Don't Knock Twice (2016)
Well made but...
It is not a B movie, it is really well made, with really good actors. But the it seem to me like a 2 hours movie in which they had to cut half an hour of scenes. The result is a nice story line with holes in it.
The actors are really good, the soundtrack is also good, the camera shooting is also good with the CGI. The problem is you get in the vehicle and start rolling and suddenly you roll on a bump. You ask yourself « woooh, what the hell happen here, why are they so disconnect? Somebody is missing and nobody cares? » Or « Why are they answering the door as if there was an imminent danger? Nobody does that! » You know, things like that
It seem that with half an hour more, the filmmaker could have sewed properly the pieces together.
The Mummy (2017)
IMDb is invaded by automatic ratings
Whether it is to climb a bad film, or to bring down a good movie, automated ratings are terribly harmful to this film source that is IMDb.
Do not pay attention to the bad reputation that is given to this film because it is superbly done well, and entertaining to the end.
This reminds me of the Hunger Games. The reviews were so good that I jumped at the opportunity to watch it. But what a surprise to see such absurdity without values of any kind. It was there that I began to understand that large companies were engaged in a trade war. Good movies were ridiculed and very bad movies were adored.
The film the Mummy is very well made, funny at times, fascinating, and diverting. Each scene is meticulously worked, and with great talent. I gave 9 out of 10 because this film is in my view, almost perfect.
This is a low budget, and a low in almost everything little movie. It is watchable if you don't care and have friends to talk to and a lot of popcorn.
For example, it all start with a frenetic woman in shock who is running in pouring rain for help. She reach a store which is closing, so the responsible simply lock the door on her saying "we're closed" and don't give a heck that she is in trouble and urgently need help in that remote area.
After that, we notice that she is not wet, even if she was running in the rain. She then run to a phone booth to call 911. We can see that she is in a light dress, almost a night dress with nothing else (she is running for her life). An alien craft then come over her head and suck her in.
But by magic, the policeman that comes after to investigate the scene, finds in the rubble guess what the woman's wallet with her picture! Where the heck was she keeping that wallet?
Anyway, it is just an example in order to describe the lack of work in that movie. For the rest of it, it is again really bad aliens that violently kidnap people in order to torture them.
Armed Response (2017)
Wow! Nice little gem
OK, Snipe was not playing the best role of the movie, but he was part of a solid team.
I really don't agree with the negatives reviews. It is a low budget movie, but it doesn't matter because they made something really nice with what they had.
The shooting is well done, the soundtrack is also nice, and the casting is really impressive. I mean, all the new faces where really good actors, and during the entire movie we felt that Snipe was really well surrounded. And it felt fresh to see all those new solid faces.
The only negative thing I have to say is about the beginning of the movie. It felt badly written and empty. But after that, you can sit and enjoy the nice work.
300: Rise of an Empire (2014)
What a masterpiece!
The first time you watch it, you may expect it to be like the first 300 movie. In fact, it is, but it's story line is developing in parallel with the first one, and is different.
Because of some expectations, it's at the second watching that I've been really able to admire all the beauty and the perfection of this second story.
Everything in this movie is perfect. The actors are fabulous, the costumes are beautiful, the soundtrack is marvellous, and all the work they put into the visual effects, make every shot a feast for the eyes.
I mean, seriously, you could stop the movie at any frame and it would make a poster of it. It's how beautiful and perfect it is.
So forget all the negative reviews, and watch it by yourself, and if possible, twice.
How can a series be so perfect?
I never liked the TV series but since I was interested in The Expanse, I took a chance to watch The Travelers. And I do not regret it.
This series is perfect in every point. The actors and actresses are extraordinary, genial and extremely talented. The concepts and script are solid, the camera games, the audio track, the effects, everything, everything, everything is flawless.
I would very well see these actors play this series in the form of film for the cinema.
It's so good that I do not want to miss a single minute. I wish a long life to this work.
I was shaken by the amount of bad reviews for this movie, and yet, the more I listened to it, the more I thought, "This film is well done!"
I am disappointed that so many superficial people invade IMDb with their negative comments on films that do not deserve it. This film is very well done, the actors are usually very good, and the plot and style of the film hooked me from the start.
Usually a bad movie is detected in the first few minutes, but it was already 20 minutes I listened and hung and satisfied with what I saw.
Do not believe the bad reviews, after listening to this film, I see that they are people who really expected things, who had expectations.
Personally, I have absolutely no regrets in my experience.
Worth to be watched
Despite the many predictable passes this film remains a pleasure to watch and follow to the end.
There are not so many good movies that are created each year, and I find that the critics are so demanding, unforgiving, as if they were all writers and high levels filmmakers.
The actors in this film are extraordinary, mainly Milla Jovovich, Pierce Brosnan, Dylan McDermott and Frances de la Tour which was wonderful.
If the scenario would have been better prepared, more prepared to remove the predictable places, it would have been a great suspense. But for this time, we will have to content ourselves with a nice piece of cinema.
It is not a masterpiece but it's nice to see these actors play all in the same movie and deliver such a flawless performance.
Stake Land (2010)
Do not expect too much
This film received too many compliments that are not in my opinion deserved. Some even presented this film as being better than The Road. It's intentional exaggeration. This film is not serious at all, you cannot compare it to The Road.
They tried to invent a new style of zombies, by calling them "vampires" and making them hard to kill, but seriously, it's a good try but it's a major failure. It did not work. It is absurd.
The construction of the film is chaotic and disjointed. The basis of the story is missing or greatly inadequate. We really don't understand why a sickness like that emerge in the hole world, so how the hell do they expect us to follow the story. I give a 5 to this movie because it's not a total failure, but it is not a good film.
Jupiter Ascending (2015)
Do not pay attention to negative reviews.
I really do not understand why these people are attacking this film with as much acrimony. You'd swear they have a grudge against the Wachowskis. I admit that the script could have been a little less predictable, but still! How many good movies come out each year? If it comes out one or two that's great. In this film, the authors have really given all their expertise with an ultra talented team with a very appropriate choice of actors. The characters are amazing, extremely well designed, whether for CGI or the characters played by actors. I really was knocked down from beginning to end. This film competes in beauty with the latest Star Trek. However, with more beauty in design. The only weakness I found in all of this film, is the little predictable side of the story, and the little lack of originality and rigour in the soundtrack.
