The Last Days on Mars (2013)
Very well done movie
In fact, the people's comments have disappointed me more than the film itself. There were so appalling reviews I expected a miserable movie... and NO. This film was very well until the end.
I like many kinds of movies, and I can very well recognize a good or a bad movie, and this one is more than acceptable.
I feel that those who did not like it are kind of amateurs of fast food very seasoned like Transformers, and other things like that.
For my part, I enjoyed the flawless acting of the actors, the superb details of the sets, and the super cool vehicles. We can see throughout the film the efforts that have been made to make the overall feel credible and realistic, even the dialogues are very well written. I would have liked to see more.
Total mess part 2
The Hunger games movies, the first one as the second one have very great difficulties to grab and seduce simply because it is base on sand. I feel that the author of those stories is mixing originality and imagination with confusion and craziness
The different parts of those stories does not stitch together. There is a huge lack of sens, of coherence, so we never, even for a second, feel that it has some credibility, that it could be possible. It seem that the story was improvised by a chicken without head.
Art and creativity has nothing to do with random foolishness, or insanity. Until the end i was hoping for things to straight up and see a genius development that would give answers to all that mess, but in vain The conclusion was even worst
Anyway, if you liked the first mess, you will like the second mess.
Escape Plan (2013)
I hate movies that seem to follow a template.
Very predictable, not enough content, cheap wardrobe, even their pairs of glasses where badly chosen that is something that you don't see very often.
It was also surprising how the other secondary actors where almost useless in that movie.
I mean, it was so predictable that after an hour i could not stand it anymore and i start to fast forward it that is how bad it was.
Anyway, if you like movies like The Expendables, or other spaghetti movies you may like that. I love those actors, but not in cheap scenarios like that.
The only good thing about this movie in my point of view is that it it fun to see those actors again playing together.
Riddick is unique
The first Riddick Pitch Black is marvellous, the second, Dark Fury is satisfying, the third, Chronicles, is incredible, a gem, I think I watched it 10 times (the Blu-ray version is so sharp).
And this one is a real work of art. It is a nice blend of the first and the Chronicles, with a look toward the future. The way they manage to link all the movies together and bring the story forward is very nice.
I was SO happy to learn that there was going to have another Riddick, I could not believe it and all the work they have put in this fourth movie is incredible. The result is a real gift to all the fans. I really hope to see more of Riddick soon.
All the extra stuff on the Blu-ray is also really nice.
The Wolfman (2010)
Highly underrated masterpiece
I really don't understand all the bad reviews of this movie. The only explanation that I can figure out is that those people watched it with a lot of expectations and they did not found what they were looking for, or they just went to see that movie being in the wrong mood
I must admit that I had to watch it twice in order to give it a 10 out of 10. The first time I gave a 7. The second time I really watched it with a clear mind and I really was able to appreciate each frame of it
The actors are perfect, the camera framing is a delight to watch, the costumes are fabulous and each line of the script is well written. It is rare that I give a higher rating at a second viewing, but this movie is that kind of masterpiece
Usually, when there is a weak script, everything fall with it... But this movie is different. Even if the storyline is incomplete, or lack of imagination, the actors are so good that you still follow the adventure (without big expectations) until the end.
The cast is solid, the acting is flawless, the soundtrack is good, so... A script with a bit more originality would have made a very good movie.
Don't expect a kind of apocalyptic movie like The Road, or crude has HELL (Bright), but more of a soft philosophical end of time story, a reset of humanity.
But anyway, congratulations to the actors, you all did a very good job.
After Earth (2013)
A nice movie for children
They had everything in their hands to make a good movie, but they chose to go ahead with a 200% predictable script. It is still an interesting movie for children, or perhaps even for teens, but for me, I was disappointed after 5 minutes. If you are looking for a feature film for an activity with your children, perfect. But do not expect anything solid or serious with this film. This is the kind of scenario from a template, proved for decades. There is a nice work of scenery, of 3D, costumes are acceptable (after the last StarTrek, it is hard to find impressive costumes in a movie) and soundtrack is average. Finally, this film is for a general audience, which is as much concerned about the popcorn as the movie, which like to talk with friends while the movie is running. But nothing more.
World War Z (2013)
I really expected more, with a concept that seemed interesting with good actors. However, we are quickly slapped by a poor script. Even if the main actor put all his talent in it, he can not save the film, he can barely make it interesting. What disconnects me from a film is firstly this kind of scenario that seems to have been written by a 10 years old kid, and this is the case of World War Z. In addition to stand on a soundtrack that is struggling to harmonize. Well, on top of all, one continually has the impression that it is a collage made by a new director who dream of paying himself a movie with Brad Pitt, and to include in it all interesting shots he saw in his favourite movies. A copy paste movie.
