Unstable Bonds :Mama
Mama would have had a higher rating in this review, If it had not been so bloody predictable. The casting was not too bad, the story line was actually quite original, but the thing that annoyed me about this film, and the reason why It gets a lower rating, is because as soon as things started to accelerate, I could predict exactly what would happen, and a film should never be like that, If you want It to be good. As I've said the main building blocks of the film were very promising, but thanks to having watched so many similar films, I could say who was gonna do what and what was gonna happen next. The two children, I think are in a limbo situation of how well they will do in the film industry, as are most child actors, but that should not stop them. So all In all Mama is a decent film, if you're not familiar with horror.
I Pad, I Pod, I God: Jobs
Admittedly, when I first heard that Kutcher was going to be taking the lead role in this Bio Pic of Steve Jobs, I was rather sceptical. But other than that, I thought to myself, really ? The guy who ruined The Butterfly Effect for me ? I honestly could not picture Kutcher giving a decent performance In this film, but you know what, I was pleasantly surprised. Without there being the greatest of openings and with some dry parts from James Woods and co, the film wasn't perfect. Moving on, I think that this film represented Jobs' life extremely well, especially since I wasn't really that familiar with his life before Apple, so I think It was well put together In this film. Another thing I'd like to point out Is that despite myself being less than satisfied in the past by Kutcher's performances, this was an amazing performance in every sense of the word. Yup. Awesome.
Escape Plan (2013)
Two Collosal Giants Victorious: Escape Plan
This was the film that every action fan has been waiting for since these two legendary hulk busters, first stared taking out Apollo Creed and working for Skynet and John Connor, and since we started to see plans coming together since we saw The Expendables II which in all honesty, was grim, but still we knew we were gonna get an epic masterpiece eventually, and this guys, Is that. This movie is incredibly action packed from the beginning to the end. Other than the fact that this film has these two brilliant action stars, It also has other casting such as Tim Robbins and 50 Cent or just Curtis Jackson if you will. Whilst Tim Robbins is an extremely good actor and Jackson may be a better rapper rather than an actor, given performances in Get Rich or Die Trying' and other basic motion pictures, but still this film is epic.
The Purge (2013)
Legal for Twelve Hours, Terrible for Two : The Purge
I know the film wasn't necessarily on for Two Hours, but I thought It sounded good so, y'know deal with It. But anyway, The Purge ... -_- ... That should be enough really. But I hated this film, I thought It was flat, weakly put together and was anyone even asking for this bloody mess ? I know that a film about all crime being legal for 12 Hours may sound like a good Idea, but after watching this film I was severely disappointed and I just ... Well I'm getting so sick of Ethan Hawke. His career is weirdly going steady, but frankly I don't think this guy can do horror. Again that mind sound weird, with him being lined up to take the main role in The Butterfly Effect remake, but to me that still doesn't sound like something I'd enjoy watching. And there's Lena Headey, she's not a bad actress in all honesty, she just gets a bad rap in this film.
Oz the Great and Powerful (2013)
Yellow Brick Success: Oz the Great and Powerful
So when I heard that this film was coming out, I was like really ? They're really doing this ? I was quite surprised in all honesty, but I was even more surprised when I heard that Sam Raimi was directing ? I mean who was he gonna cast ? Bruce Campbell as Oz ? Tobey Maguire as the Wicked Wimp of the West ? But no, I was extremely surprised when I heard some of the casting in this film, with James Franco taking the lead, and Mila Kinks (the hottest woman In the world) was gonna be playing the Wicked Witch of the West, I thought to myself, alright Raimi, I'll give you a chance. And I've gotta say, I wasn't all too disappointed, the story was unusually original, considering It was a prequel, most of the performances worked well for the film, and In total there was only one thing that I didn't particularly like, and that was that god awful back story.
The Great Gatsby (2013)
Name by Nature: The Great Gatsby
I think that we can all agree that after he was finished with Spider - Man, Tobey Maguire's career was in a damp place. It wasn't necessarily completely said and done, It was ... It was a bit like a broken elastic band, still there but without any fling to It. And when I heard he was gonna have a vital role in this film, I thought to myself 'Okay. I'm Game'. So I went to see It, and It was kind of one of those films that pretty much everyone could've called upon and for me, that kind of lowered It's rating. I don't wanna see a film that I'll be able to predict and yes Leonardo DiCaprio (Awesome Actor) was In It also, but that doesn't change It's level of predictability, and even though It did have a reasonable story line, we all knew what was coming even just by the trailers alone. So well done guys, but still saw It coming.
The Call (2013)
Hung Up: The Call
If IMDb could allow me to insert a Review with three letters alone, It would be simply 'Meh' this film bored me more than Signs! Halle Berry sucks! I've only ever seen her in one role that I liked her In and that is Storm in the X - Men Franchise, and that's ... Well she's not exactly the strongest of performers in that Franchise, compared to Sir Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Hugh Hackman, Hell even Kelsey Grammar was awesome in Last Stand, even though that was the only awesome thing about that film. But anyway this film was dryer than a Nun's Vagina, the plot was probably written in an hour, the casting, well I'm not gonna even go there with the casting. So any who, I will give this film one thing, It's kind of an irregular genre these days, but still that doesn't mean just because It was brave It was good, otherwise The Mandarin Twist would've been awesome.
Jack the Giant Slayer (2013)
A Child Friendly Epic :Jack the Giant Slayer
Everyone is saying that this film was terrible, and I'm not gonna lie, this was only the second fairy tale spin adaption that I've enjoyed. Snow White and the Huntsman, Mirror Mirror, Beastly, all terrible in my opinion, but this, I liked. First of all I'd like to point out that I like Nicholas Hoult as an actor, ever since I saw him alongside Hugh Grant in About a Boy, I knew he had talent. Of course there's Bill Nighy and Ewan McGreggor, but they're practically loved world wide anyway. Mind you, this film Isn't perfect, as It does have a few plot holes that kind of make you go 'Wait What ?' But hey I'm willing to let that pass for the sake of a generally good, well put together movie. The plot itself has only few remaining elements left from the original storyline, but In total I think that Jack the Giant Slayer is a throughly enjoyable movie.
Olympus Has Fallen (2013)
Secure - Insecure: Olympus Has Fallen
Firstly I'd like to say that I'm a sucker for this kind of Genre, It's action packed, got a brilliant story written to It and has three of my favourite actors starring In It. The film Itself wouldn't look out of place in a franchise such as Die Hard, as It is truly that packed with destruction, battling and everything by the sides of It. The story is really well written and It's by far one of the best I've seen in the past couple of years, It is truly a film of epic proportions that I think everyone should view at some point, whether you're a constant fan of action or you're just looking for something decent to watch. It's certainly something that I think defines the definition of a truly epic action packed creature of political awesomeness ... Bit of a mouthful but anyway that's really just what I thought of Olympus Has Fallen.
Bullet to the Head (2012)
Weak Tough Guys :Bullet to the Head
Meh. Didn't like this film. Sly Stallone is about as underwhelming as the plot of the film is. I mean Christ, did any thought actually go into this ? I'm sure they just sat down and thought, 'Whats a Cheap Storyline that Action Freaks will enjoy ?' It really is an all round basic plot that, would make Wes Craven go 'Wow that was awesome' The Last Stand had a more complex plot than this pathetic excuse for a Movie. Mind you, there are certain points that make me feel like Stallone really tried in those moments, I mean he's a good actor and all, but Jesus Sly, get a better agent! Anyone that has seen this film, will know that It might as well actually be a video game Movie, as It has both the realism of one and the plot line of one, and for me, that just says It all about a film. So all in all I'd say that Bullet to the Head was a film not to be bought.
