The Passion of the Christ (2004)
Hard to watch the whole film, but I'm glad I did
Look, it was difficult to watch and the film cops a lot of criticism but it is a sound depiction of The Passion and I believe that the world, or at least Christians need to witness this film at least once in their lives. I will never watch it again and although I was cringing throughout the whole film, I really felt something in my heart when I watched it, but as I said I will never watch it again. This is not because it is a bad film, but because I don't need to watch a film like this again for a long time. A truly unique and strong depiction of Christ's final hours.
The scolding of Jesus at the hand of the soldiers was terrifyingly graphic and really allowed me to feel the pain (not literally of course) and anguish experienced by Jesus
Overall, a powerful story that stays relatively true to the gospels. I'd advise anyone to watch it, but get ready for serious brutality and expect to shed a few tears.
Treasure Planet (2002)
When people ask what my favourite animated or cartoon films are, it's easy to say Shrek, Toy Story, Monsters Inc. and Aladdin, but the surprise package that always seems to pop up for me is Treasure Planet. What a wonderful film, and that is for one main reason. This being that I actually care for these characters. Too often I go and watch a cartoon film and, whilst it may be amusing, I don't actually care what happens to the characters. But in this case, be the character Jimbo, Arrow, Amelia, Morph, The Doctor or Ben, I actually want them to succeed and care for their safety.
Another reason this film is so successful to me is that I was truly upset when Arrow died. This scene and the aftermath of this scene was actually a truly 'oh my God, no!' moment. This is one of the many examples of where this film delivers on an emotional level.
But ultimately, the aspect of this film which I loved most was actually a character.... And that character was John Silver! What a great character! In fact, he reminds me of a cartoon Barbossa! His touching turn to grace and taking in of Jimbo was truly beautiful and leaves me with a smile every time!
You'll have a wonderful time with this one, "you can be sure of that".
This is truly one of the most underrated films of all time - 8/10
Iron Man Three (2013)
A good action film, but disappointing
I went into this one with high expectations but sadly, it let me down immensely, but, after The Avengers, anything was bound to. I will not say that Iron Man 3 is a bad film by any means, in fact it was quite entertaining, it just let me down because the trailer put me under the impression it would be fantastic! It wasn't. I was so excited for the Mandarin but again, he did not live up to my expectations. Although Kingsley's portrayal was fantastic in terms of the acting itself, it was not what I wanted to see. I wanted to see the Mandarin and the Ten Rings. The trailer for this film was not in fact for this film but for something completely different and, in all honesty, I thought the trailer was more interesting than the film.
Entertaining and cool but lacking that 'wow' factor of the first one.
