The Skeleton Key (2005)
Good Suspense Movie From A Skeptic
I will admit that most suspense movies and horror flicks of these days are very predictable. They all follow some sort of form that usually ends up the exact same at the end. I will also admit that I really didn't want to see this movie, but after my friend had rented it instead of Wedding Crashers one night I still figured I'd give it a shot. This movie is very well made. The acting is rather good for a suspense/thriller of it's kind and the writing is exceptionally equal. Gena Rowlands I must say took me by surprise in this movie. Her character was very well acted out. I'm not a great big fan of Kate Hudson herself, but I find myself watching her movies all the time. She's a good actress for what she normally does and this movie is a completely 180 to the roles that she usually plays. I never would have imagined that I would have jumped out of my seat in certain places in this movie, but there are times when something happens when you least expect it to. I give them props on the way this movie was made and while it's certainly not the greatest scary/suspense/horror/whatever movie out there it's definitely a movie worthy of the $3 rental fee or whatever the price may be in your area. I suggest watching it with someone else too and always watching it at the wee hours of night in the darkest environment possible. That setting alone will help you enjoy the movie better, although it is quite enjoyable alone in the middle of the day too. I will say this in closing, I never expected what happened at the end. I just thought the ending would be clichéd and predictable but there was a pretty good twist. I give this movie a 7/10 for being one of the first suspense movies to come out in the past five or so years to seem to have some originality. I recommend seeing it.
