The Brittas Empire (1991)
Very silly, but funny show.
I initially viewed this show one night on TV a few years ago because of Chris Barrie. Being a big Red Dwarf and Rimmer fan I had to give it a shot. I quickly fell in like with it and now have every episode on tape. Barrie steals the show as Gordon Brittas, as he should, but all the other characters are quite funny in their own ways. I too liked the relationship between Gordon and Laura and was disappointed it was dropped when the actress left the show. Even though Gordon is annoying and a walking disaster, you can't help but like and sympathize with him. I would recommend this to anyone who likes to laugh at a show that doesn't take itself too seriously.
One of my all-time faves. "It's f*ckin' phenomenal!"
**Minor Spoilers Ahead*
When I first saw this film years ago, I was kind of shocked at all the profanity and sexual innuendo. But as I got older and the more I saw it, I don't see what the big deal is. I don't find it offensive to women at all (and I am one). Yes Ford is a bit of a womanizer, but his heart really belongs to his assistant, Jazz. And speaking of Jazz, she's spunky, smart and as Ford says, "she despises me for who I truly am", which is why he loves her. He also protects Zuzu and an all female rock bad from a psycho and befriends a kid. This is a very funny film, classic one-liners, a hysterical turn by Ed O'Neil as Ford's nemesis Lt. Amus and Dice is very likable as Ford too.
I wish the film had been a bigger success because it would've been cool to get a Ford Fairlane franchise out of this.
