A beautifully engaging and touching family adventure
Tangled is loosely based on the well-known fairy tale, Rapunzel. It's be interpreted in so many different ways over the years, that it was about time that Disney had a go! As usual, they didn't disappoint. With its stunning animation, heartwarming story line and lovable characters, Tangled is in many ways, a perfect movie. As a Disney kid, my opinion on most Disney movies is extremely biased, but I can promise you, hand on heart, that Tangled is worth watching. It keeps you entertained from start to finish, and tops it off with a sickly sweet ending, classic Disney style! Take it from someone who has watched this movie more times than most, has read the "Art Of" book from cover to cover and has an unhealthy obsession with it. Ignore the hate, and just give it a go, because you won't be left unsatisfied...
The Descent (2005)
This movie, though not my "favourite" horror, is definitely up there in the list of stomach churning, arm gripping, breath taking films. I first watched "The Descent" alone whilst reading a book, so didn't pay too much attention to what was going on. The few times I put my book down and looked briefly at the screen, I got a scare! I suggested to my sister and mum, along with her friend, that we all watch it on New Years Eve. About 20 minutes into the movie, my mum said "this is boring". I felt a little downhearted after that, but insisted we gave it time. That wasn't a mistake! Once the characters found themselves stuck in the caves and struggling to find their way out, we all concentrated more, wondering what was going to happen next. Then, after the first creature had shown itself, there was scream after scream to follow, along with a lot of laughs! There was barely a quiet moment to redeem yourself! My mum admitted that the movie turned out pretty great once it had finished. "The Descent" is full to the brim with scares, jumps and plenty of terrifying scenes to make your throat sore! If you find yourself in the same situation a little while into the movie and feel like it's never going to pick up pace, trust me, it does. Definitely worth watching and deserves it 18 rating. Prepare yourself for this movie, you won't soon forget about it...
The Cabin in the Woods (2012)
Wow, what a movie! It's definitely up there with the "weirdest films I've ever watched list", along side Donnie Darko! At first, you may think that it's one of those typical horrors with the pretty girl ,the jock, the smarty pants, the joker and the innocent girl, but that's entirely the point! The basics of the story line, without revealing any spoilers, is that a group of teenagers set out on a trip to stay in a Cabin rented out by one of the friend's cousins. Once they arrive, they make themselves at home, have a little party, play truth or dare etc. But, when they're lured down into the cellar and discover a mysterious diary, things go a bit topsy turvy! Little do they know that they're being watched by a bunch of lunatics that are filming their every move. A bit like the Hunger Games if you like, that's how I explained it to my mum! You're probably sighing to yourself now, because it does sound very familiar to many horrors already around today, but there's a twist! I can't say much more really at the risk of spoiling it all! My advice is watch it yourself and find out! If you're into the boring, predicable horrors when you always know what's going on, then the Cabin in the Woods is probably not for you. But, if you're into fresh, original, edge of your seat ones where at some points you'll be thinking "what the hell is going on here" and at others you'll be like "wow, this is so cool...", this is a must watch! There aren't many movies, especially horrors, in which I've actually paused the TV and stated how much I loved it! The fact that the ending was so inconclusive excited me, didn't irritate me or make me feel like a massive chunk was missing, it allowed me to come up with the ending for myself, which I always appreciate. Thank you everyone involved in the making of the Cabin in the Woods for giving me a thoroughly entertaining evening! Had to write this...
The Woman in Black (2012)
One of my FAVOURITE movies!!!!
From the very beginning of the film, you knew that it was going to be good... The mood is set almost immediately, and jumps straight into it. I've had a lot of people telling me that it was "slow" at times, but I completely disagree, and think that it was simply building the tension!!! As soon as you lay eyes on the house in the marsh, and the creepy music plays, you're on the edge of your seat and waiting for the unexpected to happen... Throughout the movie, I was constantly looking behind the characters and in mirrors, expecting to catch a glimpse of a shadow, and as soon as you settle, there's a woman on the screen!!! The acting was brilliant, and I love the fact that the characters used body language more than anything!!! This movie had NO blood and gore, just simple, horrifying moments that drew you to the screen... I was so fixated by this movie, that I didn't eat a single piece of popcorn, and had about 5 sips of my drink, which is saying something, seeming as I've usually finished both within the first 10 minuets!!! This movie wasn't confusing in my eyes, and I think the story line was brilliant!!! The one thing that I was surprised on, and really think should be changed, is the rating... I mean, this film should EASILY be a 15!!!! And they didn't even put it as a solid 12, they put it as a 12a!!! Which means kids as young as 5, and even younger are able to watch it with an adult!!! If you're looking at this movie and thinking, oh, it's only a 12a, it's just going to be a few scares that are obviously going to happen when the music plays, then think again!!! I went to see this with my mum and older sister, and we are SO lucky that my younger brother didn't come along, because he would of been crying his eyes out, and we'd have to take him home... This film is AMAZING and I LOVED it!!!! Probably the movie I've ever jumped the most in!!!! WATCH THIS MOVIE PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 10/10, easy...
