Lists by Hojon
I got the idea for this list when I was trying to think of a director whose entire feature-length filmography (shorts, music videos, or tv episodes don't apply) I had seen. I came up with several, but I restricted this list only to those directors who have made at least 5 theatrical films (sorry, Edgar Wright). I'm going to challenge myself to get more people on this list at 100% just cuz I enjoy challenges that require very little effort. Feel free to post your own lists in the comments section.
This isn't necessarily a list of the most important or influential films ever made. It's just a list of my personal faves. While most of these films may not have invented or even revolutionized their respective genres, they did, in my opinion at least, perfect them.
Excludes gangster movies and modern, color noir. Old B&W's only.
While I'll always prefer a comic horror movie over a straight up horror, I think by now this particular comedy vein has been mined clean.
For a genre whose stories have one of only three possible endings (win, lose, or die), a surprising number of boxing films (i.e. all of them, even the awful ones) get nominated for awards.
It made sense, given all the comic book movies churned out in the last decade, that someone would eventually spoof the genre by making a movie about a completely average, albeit mentally unstable joe turning himself into a costumed vigilante. Using this idea once would've been clever, but after seven movies and counting I think the premise has been played out.
Does not include shorts, documentaries, or made-for-TV movies. The ordering may not be final. I hate trying to rank films. Probably should've just alphabetized them, but what fun is that?
