The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
You have seen enough
ROP = Story 1% + Middle-earth SKIN 49% + Mystery 50%
I waited for Season One finale so that I can give a fair conclusion: This show is a complete disaster. Solid Failure.
First off, Slow wasn't even the issue. Tolkien readers dig HoME books if that's not slow enough. I also followed Better Call Saul if that show wasn't slow enough for most people, and BCS is one of the best written/directed series ever, consistently every season and episode. Take that as your benchmark.
Issue#1: as many people have stated, is the non-story, the empty Mystery that is the main drive in ROP when we already know about everything.
When you have no real story you keep the audience guessing -- UNTIL Ep8 finally gives some solid stuff.
Issue#2: too many arcs that dont make sense and dont connect any dots, especially Harfoots/Stranger. Guy doesn't talk, so you let the bobbits do all the talk talk talk. It's ANNOYING.
Experience is experience. This is what happens when you hired noob writers who took lessons from JarJar Abrams to lead the show. They play Mystery/Suspense. WHAT A MESS.
Not having much copyright material is not even the issue. This show has proven that Hollywood will make any unnecessary changes even if they had 100% book material. Isildur time-jump to meet Galadriel, hello??
Showrunners defense: "Oh we have $1b budget, we are true Tolkien fans, we understand his stuff...etc, so our show must be good. Dont doubt it"
Wow, they call us haters and evil when they are the senseless cheerleaders.
Inspired by or not, slow pace or not, Season One is just an expensive fan fiction that did not deliver.
Jeff Bezos should CANCEL this mess altogether.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
SO BAD you dont want to watch it again
Star Wars universe already has tons of existing materials from the books and animation. KENOBI series should've used it, but it had to create new and useless roles such as Reva as the main enemy as if this universe needed another new roles.
Good example being The Mandalorian S1 where the common enemy are just the Empire stormtroopers and minions along his journey. Thus not much time was wasted on "developing" the enemy, and we get to focus on Mando. Easily done.
And yet, so much time and attention was spent on Reva, it felt she was the underdog main role and Anakin was the supporting role. This is ridiculous.
There are good moments here and there, but overall the Reva arc ruined the WHOLE pot. Does Disney have business review process at all? Obviously no.
No other Star Wars shows was so anticipated than KENOBI, it should've been done by Jon and Dave, who are PROVEN excellent Star Wars storytellers.
With existing materials, every episode COULD'VE brought back old memories and untold moments of KENOBI himself to make us cry.
This show is so bad with low re-watchability and is a complete letdown.
